RACE DAY INFORMATION:
There will tools available on race day to fix cars in the event of damage. No additional weights, graphite or other enhancement products are allowed on race day

Scouts MUST be PRESENT to compete in the race.  Any scout not present by 1:00pm will have their car removed from the competition.  Late arrivals will be re-entered in the race and any missed heats will score a zero.

ALL RACE DECISIONS ARE FINAL! There is NO exception to this rule. If you feel a SERIOUS error has been made, you may discuss it calmly with the Committee Chair (Phillip Buckley). We are there to have fun and show sportsmanship to the Scouts. Any disruptive conduct by any participant or spectator will not be tolerated and cause for immediate disqualification and dismissal from the facility.

All scouts will be racing within their rank (Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos) with trophies for first, second and third awarded for each rank. Then there will be an overall race between all the winners from the various ranks.

Pinewood Derby Car Specifications

Pinewood Derby Rules of the Road

Only official Grand Prix Pinewood Derby Kits may be used. Axles and wheels must be from the official kit. Do not cover axles with weights. Do not cover all of the nails with glue or paint; use clear cement if you feel the need to cover the entire axle with glue, so the judges may clearly see the axle-nail to ensure it meets this regulation.

Cars constructed for previous year's competitions may not be used for this year's race.

No loose materials of any kind are allowed on the car. Decorations or add-ons are allowed, provided they are firmly attached, do not provide any motive force to the car and do not make the car exceed the maximum dimensions allowed. Cars with wet paint will not be accepted.

Wheel bearings, washers, brushings or any wheel lubrications of any kind other than graphite or Cub Scout Teflon powder is prohibited. The car shall not ride on any springs or suspension system, and it must be free-wheeling with no starting devices.

Wheels may be sanded to remove molding seams on the tread, but not grooved or ridged. The width and shape of the original wheel tread cannot be changed.
All four wheels must specifically ride flat on the track, and may not be beveled to ride on a narrow ridge or tilted to ride on an edge.

You may NOT move the wheels forward or backward on the car.  Axels must be in the slots cut into the official kit.  If necessary, you may "square" the slots if they are not at a 90 degree angle but the position of the axels MUST remain in the original location.

Cars must have a designated front and rear. If the car's front and rear are not obvious, then prior to any races, the Scout must designate and mark on the the car which end is the front and which end is the rear.
