Committee Meeting
February 10, 2009

Re-Charter:
- Phillip is gathering the info that he needs
and will be handling this on Thursday, Feb. 12th
2008 Centennial Quality Unit
Award:
- Award has been earned and will be placed with
our flag
- 2008 patches are not in yet
2009 Centennial Quality Unit
Requirements:
- Phillip will send out specifics. They
can also be found on Scoutingmagazine.org
Old Pinewood Derby Track:
- The Frontier Council has accepted our offer of
our old pinewood derby track. They are currently working out the
storage details.
- There will be a small presentation ceremony,
hopefully in Spring.
Cotillion:
- The Highlands Ranch Recreation Center is
offering Cotillion classes. Details at Cotillion.com.
Treasurer:
- Mark Borchert is our new treasurer.
- Currently we have approximately $10,800 in the
Scout Savings account, as well as approximately $1000 in our Scout Shop
account.
- Phillip is studying the History of the account
in anticipation of creating a Scout budget.
Pack trainer:
- Mindy Meszaros is our Pack Trainer
Potential Pack Trips:
- Wings Over the Rockies
- Food Bank of the Rockies
- Bike Safety Classes
Douglas County Schools:
- Effective May 1, 2009, there will be an
increase in the fee that the schools charge us to use the schools. We
may need to change our committee meeting location to the Library or the Rec
Center.
- The School District is requesting that
reservations be made for the upcoming year on May 1, 2009 at 8:00
a.m.
- Bret Bartelson will be handling all school
reservations.
- We will maintain the current Pack meeting
schedule.
May Committee Meeting:
- Tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May
23rd at Sean Gooden’s house.
- Attendees should come with one idea for an
item we can achieve as a Pack next year.
Pinewood Derby:
- Phillip has asked Dennis Holmes to complete a
summary about how this year’s derby went.
- Dennis should also include a check list of
items that need to be accomplished for a successful Derby, as well as a time
line for the completion of these items.
- The District race will be held April 4,
2009.
- The top 2 racers from each rank may attend
the race. Dennis will advise all winners of the details of the
race.
Popcorn:
- Jamie Talamantes has been asked to evaluate
how popcorn sales went this year.
Recognition for Popcorn, Pinewood Derby, and
Blue/Gold committees:
- The committee agreed to acknowledge these
hard-working committee members with $25 Visa Gift Cards and certificates of
recognition.
Knots for Leaders:
- Trained Leaders can earn up to 41 different
knots. Details can be found in the Scouting magazine, or on the
Arapahoe District website. Adults will need to track their own
progress towards awards.
Summer Camps:
- Information can be found at denverboyscouts.org. There is a link to this site on
our Pack Website (Pack872.com)
- Day Camps are also available.
Good Turn Patches:
- Phillip needs to know the names of the scouts
who participated in the food drive this past year so he can order their good
turn patches.
Vote Items:
- For the Flags at Trailblazer:
- The committee has approved the purchase of 2
new Stands at $35 apiece.
- Flags for the Pack:
- The committee approved 2 Flag & Pole
covers at $22.90 each.
- The committee approved 1 new Eagle emblem
for $40.
- The committee conditionally approved new
stands at $35, if Pack 870’s are not in good usable condition.
- The committee approved the purchase of
specific Den flags at $12 apiece. These flags will be used at Pack
meetings to designate where each den should gather and sit. Each Den
will be in charge of making their own stand as well as a 5 foot tall
flagpole in the color of their rank (Tigers-orange, Wolf-red, Bear-lt.
blue, 1st year Webelos-blue, 2nd year
Webelos-gold).
Volunteer Recognition Dinner:
- Saturday, March 21, 2009 from 6:00-9:00 p.m.
at LDS Church.
- Cost is $16 per person, $20 at the
door.
- The Committee has nominated Fritz Wiegman,
Rebecca Wilson, and Sean Gooden as our Pack’s Outstanding Scouter Award
winners. The Pack will pay for our winners and their spouses to
attend.
Blue & Gold Update:
- Schedule of events is nearly finalized.
- 15 boys are crossing over. The committee
agreed to spend $25 per scout on crossover gifts.
April Meeting:
- Dave Leeret is in charge of this meeting and
everything is set.
May Meeting:
- Cake Bingo, with a Dinosaur theme.
- New cards are needed.
- No admission fee this year, but donations
encouraged to support “Friends of Scouting”.
- “Friends of Scouting” is the fundraising
organization responsible for earning the money the district needs to
operate.
