No skimping or cutting corners---"Baba" would not stand for that! Our church festival volunteers have spent countless hours preparing the following menu items in our newly renovated kitchen. Baba: in Russian it means a "woman" older than a girl; it is a root-word for the well-kown "babushka", which simply means "grandmother". Borscht : a Russian soup made with beets and beef stock as a base Beef Stroganoff: sauteed strips of beef & mushrooms in sour cream sauce Goulash: a Hungarian type of stew Halupki: stuffed cabbage leaves (ground beef mixed with rice) in tomato sauce Halushki: cabbage and onions sauteed in butter, with homemade noodles Kielbasi: a seasoned & smoked sausage (sometimes known as Polish sausage) Pete's Beans: a secret recipe of homemade baked beans Pierohi: dumplings filled with potato & cheese (also called Pierogies) Piroshky: Russian meat pies or dumplings; may be filled with meat or mushroom. Russian Tea: another secret recipe! served hot, with a citrusy, spicey flavor. Tabouli: a Lebanese salad usually made of crushed wheat, tomatoes, parsley, onions, mint and lemon |
