Vladimirovac and Hrastovac Pictures
My Family Heritage.
by Darlene Dimitrie
Let me introduce my heritage!
My father was born in Vladimirovac, Torontal, Hungary (also known as Petersdorf, Roman-Petre, Petrovosello, Petrovasala - today in the Banat area of Serbia) and came to Canada on the Minnedosa arriving at Quebec City on May 1, 1925. He lived in Truax, Saskatchewan where his family had a farm through the Dominion Land Grants program. He later moved to Montreal, Quebec and eventually Windsor, Ontario (that's where I was born - or so I've been told). He participated in the famous Ford Motor Company of Canada strike in 1946, where the striking workers blockaded the roads surrounding the plant. Out of this event came the Rand Formula, stating that although all workers do not need to belong to the union, they must pay dues as they benefit.
My mother was born in Hrastovac, Yugoslavia (now Croatia), later lived in Voitsdorf and Wels, Austria and came to Canada on the Beaverbrae arriving at St. John, New Brunswick on March 20, 1952 enroute to Harrow, Ontario, later moving to Windsor, Ontario where she met my dad.
I hope you enjoy your trip through my parent's history.
