R: Kelly Clarkson and
Clay Aiken. One of them won American Idol, the other has reached a lot
of success from just being the runner up. Man, you’ve really redefined
the term “runner-up”, I think.
C: Ok, that’s fine by me.
K: Yeah!
R: Good for you both. Yeah man! Yeah! (laughs) Um, before we came to you
both on the air here, on the countdown, we’re just talking about the
two of them on tour together, talking about performing, and when
you’re on stage it really is amazing to see- even when you did the tv
show “On Air” here in Hollywood, it’s amazing to see the people.
It uh, you feed off their energy-
K: Oh definitely
C: Oh yeah
R: when you’re performing and when you’re on stage. But one of the
things that also happens to performers is that their al- they’re
inidated (sp?) with gifts. Showered with presents.
K: Oh my god, yeah.
C: Literally showered.
R: Showered with gifts!
K: Yeah
C: Or pummelled, pummelled, pummelled with gifts.
K: or nailed! Nailed with gifts.
R: Have you been- what have you been pegged by Kelly?
K: Well, it’s just, not even the actual gift. They put something hard
on it, like heavy, to throw it so-
C: Heh.
R: So it has some weight, yeah.
K: so it’ll- so it’ll get to you, yeah, like a baseball or
something.
C: And then it hits you on the, in the knee.
K: Yeah and then it hits you during your performance and that’s not-
that’s not kosher (sp?)
R: and you try to be strife because…
K: yeah
C: I usually cry.
K: Heh.
R: And you’ve had what thrown at you? Panties?
C: Panties. Panties. You know what the fu-
K: He’s talking to Clay!
(laughs)
K: Yeah, yeah. Whoo! Radio friends, yes, yes, yes!
C: I’ve had- no my favourite, I’ll get Krispy Kreme donuts thrown at
me on stage.
K: See, no, that wouldn’t be right.
C: Well I stop and eat it
K: That’s what I was gonna say! That’s what I’d do, I’d be like
“well it’s your fault now I’m gonna take a time out”
C: (at the same time as Kelly) (laughs) Hold on, hold on just give me a
second here. (laughs)
R: Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken with us, AT40 and we’re up to “The
trouble with Love Is.” Kelly, the trouble with love is what in a word?
K: It’s non-existent right now.
(laughs)
K: Yeah, it’s not here. No, I just don’t have time for it. That’s
the problem. And you know, I’m sure y’all know just as well as
everyone else in the world, it’s a vicious cycle. It’s like you find
someone and it doesn’t work- like (mumble) there’s some, it just
doesn’t work
C: I feel like I’m on Oprah now
K: Or they like someone else, and then they like someone else. Hey I’m
taking you there, so, no just kidding! (Clay laughs) No, you know, just
a vicious cycle. So, whatever…craaap
R: Kelly Clarkson on AT40 Seacrest here with Kelly and Clay together on
tour all over the country. You can see them. This week they’re gonna
be in Massachusetts on Monday, Columbus, Ohio on Wednesday, Detroit,
Michigan on Thursday, and then next weekend Winston-Salem, North
Carolina. Uh, for more information, we should put some information on
the website. Wouldn’t that be great? Maybe, uh, let people know if
they wanna go see Clay and Kelly perform live, do their thing together,
the dynamic duo, we could put it on AT40.com, Seacrest here. Umm..
(laughs)
C: Do you breathe?
K: Yeah.
R: Never
C: I don’t- I don’t think he ever took a breath on that.
K: I don’t either, it’s ok.
R: I don’t breathe anymore.
K: Heh.
R: Thank you so much for coming by. Good to see you both.
K: Anytime.
C: Absolutely.
