Recommendations

Here is a small selection of products which I recommend for Faerie lovers and fantasy fans:

Faeries
"Faeries"
by Brian Froud, D. Larkin (Ed.) & A. Lee

The "must-have" item for any faerie lover! This book contains both beautiful artwork and masses of faerie lore. But this is no prettified children's book of insipid flower fairies - all types of faerie are shown and you get a real sense of the dark, unseelie side of the Fair Folk. Considered by many to be one of Froud's best pieces of work, this is an excellent book for believers and non-believers alike!

Good Faeries/Bad Faeries
"Good Faeries/Bad Faeries"
by Brian Froud

Yet another excellent book from Brian Froud - I don't own a copy of this yet myself, but it is definitely on my Christmas List. This book continues the Froud tradition of beautiful artwork and interesting insights into faerie life as well as proving yet again the faeries aren't just for children!

Labyrinth
Labyrinth
starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly

A classic tale of fantasy and high adventure. Sarah must rescue her baby brother after rather rashly wishing that the Goblin King would take him away. Follow her adventures all the way to the castle beyond the Goblin city, meeting wonderful creatures from the Jim Henson workshop and a rather dashing Goblin King along the way. This film is crammed full of brilliant lines and definitely isn't just for kids!

The Great Encyclopedia of Faeries
"The Great Encyclopedia of Faeries"
by Pierre Dubois, C. Sabatier & R. Sabatier

A good reference work for any Faerie fan - and another book with lovely artwork. From what I have seen this Encyclopedia is well-researched and contains a lot of information, plus the Amazon site gives you a chance to take a peek inside, so you can see what you're getting before you buy.

The Small Book of Faeries
"The Little Book of Faeries"

This small collection of faerie artwork and literary references would make a good stocking filler or small gift for someone interested in the more traditional type of faerie. It contains some classic pictures and quotes from various sources, ranging from great literary works to nursery rhymes, to bring you a capsule picture of faerie tradition.

The Sandman: Season of Mists
The Sandman Library 4: "Season of Mists"
by Neil Gaiman et al.

I would of course recommend the entire Sandman series, but if you are only going to get one Sandman story arc, let it be this one. Gaiman is a master story-teller who brings to life a subtle and complex interweaving of mythologies and introduces a host of unforgettable characters. Don't be put off by the "comic book" format, "Season of Mists" is a literary triumph, and is really brought to life by artwork which ranges from the lovely and whimsical to the gothic and gruesome. Buy it NOW!
