The History of the Delta Gamma Chapter
On March 10, 1953 a group of women met for the first time as the local sorority, Lambda Alpha Phi. They gathered together to form the social sorority based on loyalty and friendship, and they remained a local sorority until 1956. In the fall of 1956 these women bonded together to begin the search for National Affiliation, they narrowed their search to Zeta Tau Alpha.

The Winston-Salem Zeta Alumnae Chapter met with the members of Lambda Alpha Phi to answer the various questions the girls had and told them about Zeta. On February 1, 1957, the Zeta Extension Chairman Mrs. John C. Alexander of High Point, hosted the members of Lambda Alpha Phi. On the 16th of February, Lambda Alpha Phi sent its Petition to the National Headquarters of Zeta Tau Alpha. They recieved a telegram on the 28th announcing their acceptence to the position.

The entire sorority of Lambda Alpha Phi underwent a period of training after their pledgeship, before they could be officially installed. On May 18, 1957, seventeen High Point College women, and eight installed initiates were formally initiated by the members of the Duke University Phi Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha.

The Delta Gamma Chapter's name was engraved on the 100th Link of the silver chain, then added by the National President, Mrs. Elliot Chapman. Then an installation banquet was held at the State Room of the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Winston-Salem that Saturday evening.
