ARCHIE'S WEIRD MYSTERIES

    Good Lord!  Archie's gone Sci-Fi!!  This is the most recent Archie series to date.  Archie Comics teamed up with DiC and Les Studio Tex (who also produced the recent Sabrina's Secret Life) to produce this show based on the new Archie comic book series of the same name (which was later renamed to the now-defunct  "Archie's Mysteries").  This show was very clever in dealing with alien invasions, paranormal activity, and vampires to name a few.  One of my favorites is the very first episode where everyone in Riverdale is being snatched up by alien potato invaders.  There is a home video from Universal Home Video titled Archie's Weird Mysteries: Archie and the Riverdale Vampires that still available so snatch it up while you can!

TRIVIA:  I couldn't wait to type this up!  The character voices on this show completely contradicts the voices on all of the Filmation shows.  For those who, like me, had seen some of the Filmation Era shows and seen Weird Mysteries as well, you'll know what I'm talking about.  I shall proceed to explain.

     First, on this show, Reggie and Betty voices stay true to their characters, even though there's different people doing them in contrast to the Filmation shows.  So not too much of a change there.  Archie's voice is a little more deep in comparison to his Filmation counterpart; more like a modern day teenager (though the Filmation Archie also sounded like a teen...going through puberty that is!!!).  Jughead's voice is a huge improvement over the Filmation version of Jug.  Though still nasally, his voice also sounds more like a teenager of today.  But the biggest change, and everyone would agree, was in the voice of Veronica.  Originally, Veronica was meant to be from the south, as on the Filmation shows she had a southern accent, and was higher in pitch.  But on Weird Mysteries, Ronnie's voice was completely changed.  Gone was the southern accent, and a more huskier, diva-like voice was imployed, instead.  But the rich attitude stayed (some things don't change).
