| The Fire Alarm |
| We had a fire alarm in some apartments in the city I live in. The fire chief pulled up and this lil old lady met him outside all frantic, swinging her arms and pointing. She said �Its this entire side, the alarms going off on this whole side�.
So he followed her into the hallway, and he could hear something going off. It would sound like it was going off outside one door, they would gain entry into that apartment, and when he walked inside he would realize that it wasn�t that apartment, so he would shut the door and go to the next one. He started to cross the hall to the other side and she yelled �it�s not those, it is on this side, I can hear it over here�, so he would walk over by her and hear it too and then check the apartment they were standing outside, and as soon as he went inside �nothing, the sound just vanished�. This went on through 3 or 4 apartments when the Fire Chief said he started to get suspicious, because he noticed that every time this lady was near him he could hear it louder. He finally turned to her and said �Maam, do you have something on you like a pager or something? She said �I don�t have anything on me�. He said �well, I am not trying to be rude, but it sure sounds like this noise is coming from you, do you have something tucked in your waistband?�. She said �I don�t have anything, look� and proceeded to pull up her shirt to just above her belly button and spins around in a circle saying �see...nothing�. Well the fire chief notices something rectangular in her right front pocket and says �Maam, do you have something in your front pocket there?� pointing to the lump in her pocket. She says �I don�t have anything in my front pocket except my heart monitor� as she whips it out of her pocket to show him and pulls out a screeching alarm. Her eyes go wide as she looks at it and realizes it is what is making the noise, she looks at the Fire Chief and they both burst into hysterical laughter. When they finally caught their breath from laughing so hard, she looks at him and says still laughing �well a lot of good this heart monitor is going to do me if it goes off and I go prancing around for a half hour looking for an alarm�. The Chief laughed and promised her he wouldn�t put her name down on this report, was just going to mark it as an �unfounded fire alarm�. (This is to the best of my memory as told to me by the fire chief.) |
