| February 2003 Timothy's cancer treatment journey began June 9, 2000. At the time he was 9 years old and in the 3rd grade. Our healthy and robust soccer player began having some dizzy spells a few months earlier. They did not appear severe in nature, however they caused concern because they continued. After other causes had been ruled out, an MRI was performed June 8, 2000. The MRI revealed a quarter size tumor in the brain (picture putting your fingers in your ears and them meeting in the middle) near the brain stem. Because of the location, immediate surgery was recommended. Timothy underwent surgery the next morning, June 9th. The surgery went very well, however the pathology of the tumor showed it to be an aggressive growing cancerous tumor - Medulloblastoma. After 14 days recovery in the hospital, Timothy began treatment to make sure all of the cancerours cells would be destroyed. This involved radiation to the brain and spine and several different types of chemotherapy. Timothy became well acquainted with the hospital staff as he spent time there for chemotherapy and needed blood transfusions. Timothy missed all of 4th grade at school, however he had a wonderful tutor who came to the home and hospital to keep him sharpened in his academic skills. Timothy's last date of treatment was August 25, 2001 (just weeks before the beginning of the 5th grade). Timothy has regular MRI's which have shown him to be tumor/cancer free. He has returned to school and shows tremendous spirit as he lives his life. He has a sensitive and compassionate heart for others. He has kept up his studies and gets good grades. Timothy will continue to be treated and monitored for side effects from the various treatments that he received for the cancer. We are grateful beyond words to the skilled doctors and nurses and so appreciative of the many people who have encouraged and supported Timothy and our family during a very difficult time. Our faith in God and the knowledge that He is in control gave us hope for a future. Timothy is a living testimony of that future. Love, Ginny Back to Home Page |
