Chapter 7
Well that was nearly five months ago and their lives had become a whirlwind. Cindy had become a Mommy that night and her hesitance to even seek out the two of them was the biggest mistake she was ever going to make because A) they already knew about her and B)Howie had proposed to Grace which meant there would be no avoiding them. If she'd had a little boy the obvious features might have been there but this little girl was a carbon copy of her mother in every sense of the word. Her little blue eyes, strawberry blonde strands and that little face just like...oh my! She hadn't ever seen it before but the shape of her face resembled every curve and definition of his. Who's you ask? That'd be telling you too much. Maybe she'd known it all along and was just avoiding the fact. Cindy returned to the front room after putting her little Susan down for the night."She's so sweet,"Grace commented when Cindy returned. "I know. So let me see that ring,"she lifted Grace's hand up."Dear God! Can you even lift this thing?"she quipped. Grace giggled."You know how good he is to me don't you,"her mood turned. "What's wrong Grace? You have the man I dreamed about having all my life and I make one mistake and lose the possibility of even having one." "What do you mean?" "The one. The one with permanent sunglasses." "He used you Cin. Come on." "I know. It's crazy but you were saying something about Howie?" "I think he told them." "Excuse?" "I think he told them about Susan." "I see." "He didn't know until he saw you the last time dear. Only when it was apparent that you were. I couldn't stop him exactly once he got back home to them." "I'm sorry. I just didn't want them to find out." "But she does have the very prominent features of the one. You know that don't you?" "I thought I was going crazy." "So when's the engagement party?"
"Two weeks from now. You are going to be there aren't you?" "I don't know. They'll be there won't they?" "They know anyway right?" "Right." "So what's the big deal? You leave Susie with your mom and dad and you come to the party. She'll be fine for a few hours." "Are you sure? I haven't left her alone with anybody since I brought her home three months ago. You know how fragile she still is." "Cindy. She's a baby. She is fragile and she will be for the first few years. You're running out of excuses you know that don't you?" "Yes I do." "So come. It's my party and he agreed to have it here. It would mean a lot to me if you would." "I'll be there." "Listen, he's gonna call tonight and I wanna be home when he does okay?" "You have like a certain time or something?" "Yes we do." "You're gonna leave me and live in Florida with him aren't you?"Cindy pouted. "You'll live. You can come visit anytime you want to you know that." "I know but it just won't be the same without you." "I know. Call me if you need anything okay?"she hugged Cindy as she exited the apartment. Cindy turned to the empty apartment and thought to herself about them. How was she going to face them? Would they even remember her? She doubted it. To them she was probably just another starstruck girl who'd had her dreams come true.
