| Chapter 20 |
| Cindy was readying Grace the next morning at the church when the knock came on the door. Cindy opened the door to find AJ standing directly in front of her. "Get out of here!"She practically slammed the door on his foot. "You've got good aim." She sighed disgustedly and inquired,"What do you want?" opening the door. "Get him out of here,"Grace bellowed. "Give me a minute,"She stepped outside pulling the door closed behind her."Now what do you want?" "I can't stay long but I just came to apologize for my behavior as of late. I guess I was just jealous." "Jealous of what? I have nothing special with Nick." "You may not think so but he adores you and that little girl." "Why are you telling me all this now?" "Did you just hear what I said?" "Of course I did." "He's in love with you Cindy and he doesn't give that away very easily. I know you love him." "And how would you know that?" "Doesn't take a genius to see the way your eyes light up every time he walks in the room. There it is right now." Nick cleared his throat. AJ turned. "Sorry. One more thing, forget about that whole DNA thing. You're looking at the guy who belongs to that gorgeous little girl. That test was for my own selfish reasons,"as he left the two in the hallway. She turned back to Nick. "Hi." "Hi. I thought you wouldn't speak to me after last night." "Why not? Grace took care of things. I understand." "Can I ask you something?" "Sure." "What do you find so fascinating about me?" "You should be asking what I don't find fascinating about you. For the last six months you're all I've lived and breathed girl. You have everything." "Remember a child comes with this package." "I know. Let me in Cindy. I want to be a part of your world." She reached up and drew him in with her lips. "I take it that's a yes." "Yes. Now go. I have to finish helping Grace. I'll see you at the reception." |
