Chapter 15
She was sitting at her computer staring aimlessly into the vast world of space because Susan was hungry and was in need of nourishment. She checked the time on the corner of the screen and blinked to double check it; three thirty A.M. Jesus! She had to get some sleep but for some unknown reason, it evaded her this evening. She was about to turn the thing off when she got an instant message. Great! Some pervert probably wanting to cyber tonight. "Hello Cindy," came across the screen. She typed in,"Who is this?" "It's Nick. Did you think some pervert was trying to chat you up this morning already?" "Speaking of which,"she placed the proper emoticon to show she was joking. "Hey man!" They'd been communicating on and off over the past four months and she was beginning to develop as real a relationship as she could these days. For the first time in about two years, she was getting to know somebody before she jumped into the sack with them (even though they had already been there). She was just doing it in reverse this time. "I just got the most recent pictures Cin. She's getting so big." "Can you believe she's one already? I'm still exhausted from her party yesterday." "She's starting to look more like you everyday Cindy. She started out with some of my features but she's turning out to be her Mommy's little girl after all." "We aren't going through this again are we?" "I'm sorry but AJ brought it up again the other day. I was looking at the pictures and he caught a glance of them. Can I ask you something Cin?" "Shoot." "Bang!"he kidded."Seriously though, does it bother you that AJ's like a complete yo-yo when it comes to you?"
"Why should it bother me? You're on a tour bus three thousand miles away right now." "I mean when you're in the same room." " I don't know. I'm trying not to focus on all that too much any more these days. Between helping Grace make wedding plans, taking care of Susan and working, I really don't have time to think about it." "Are you still getting the barrage of reporters in front of your building like you were before?" "My boss has put a restraining order on any reporter coming within five hundred feet of the building so I'm pretty well covered these days. One sneaks through the cracks ocassionally." "That happens though. So are you seeing anyone these days?" "Does it sound like it?" "Sorry." "Don't be. I'm not. I enjoy having these late night conversations with you. I sleep when she takes her naps on my days off which today is one of them. Other than that, I just suffer through my day and tell them Susan was up all night. Kids are a great excuse for lack of sleep." "So what about now? You tired?" "Not since you came on here. Why?" "I know this is kinda silly but I've never......you know." "You're asking me to have Cybersex with you? " "Who's it hurting? We're three thousand miles apart remember?" She punched in a smile. "Does this mean you'll do it?" "I haven't done this in awhile and I know you." "So this is easier with strangers?"
"Sometimes. Besides we're friends." "So. The computer's the only thing in front of you right now. Don't go shy on me now." "Thanks a lot." "Forget about it then." "I didn't say I didn't want to. You ready?" "Who you talking to Nicky boy?"AJ approached him on the bus. "None of your business. Leave me alone." "It's Cindy isn't?" "Get out of here,"he drew the separating door closed and locked it behind AJ. "Nick?"She inquired of the blank screen. "Sorry. AJ sends his love." "I'm sure he does. Now where were we?"completely forgetting the little elevator adventure she'd had with him. There was no way they were ever gonna happen. Nick was taking the time to get to know her and she felt comfortable with him. Something about AJ really made her uneasy nowadays. "We were just about to get started on this little adventure."
