Chapter 13
"Nice going Hal,"AJ spat.
"What did I do?  I did what I was supposed to and if you two are smart you'll keep your distance from that one."
"Why Hal? Because she's bad news?  She didn't even take your offer.  That proves to me she's not into material things which by the way, we could give her any number of.   So if you'll excuse me, I'm going to make sure she's okay,"he bolted out of the office and down the hall toward the metal doors inches away from taking her away from him forever.
He caught the door and pressed against each one until they slid back on their own.  He stepped in next to her.
She stood silently as the doors closed."I don't think anybody has ever stood up to Hal like you just did."
"So what  do I get?  A metal?!"
"Damn girl!  You don't let anyone ever pay you a compliment do you?"
"What's it to you?"
He moved toward the buttons on the elevator and hit the stop button.  He turned back to her.
"Why the hell did you do that?"she huffed.
"Because you're gonna listen to me now,"inching his way closer to her; trapping her between himself and the wall of the mechanical cart."I've searched long and hard to find someone like you.  I know you have a heart in there somewhere.  You just don't let anyone ever see it."
"So what's your excuse then?"
"What are you talking about?"
"The permanent eyewear.  You're shutting out the world just as much as I am by hiding behind those things."
"Fair enough,"he removed the shaded instruments hiding his expression."Better?"
She lost her voice with the revelence of his eyes.  How could a man that was so cruelly intimate with her one evening become this enchanting in a matter of seconds?  She managed to find her voice  and responded,"A little bit."
"So tell me something, how is your daughter?"
"You're not really interested in her right now are you?"his breath a furnace setting her soul into a raging inferno.  Damn him!
"I was being polite but if  you would rather I wasn't,"his scent enveloping the very heart of her.  His very presence was dissarming every sensibility she had and she was slowly losing the battle with her conscious as his lips slowly approached the softness of hers. Softly, slowly they melted into the very essence of one another as he drew her from the wall into the circumference of his taut, lean arms.
They were so wrapped up in each other they barely felt the jerk of the elevator coming back to life.
Her body lost control of all rational thought as she continued melting into the warmth of his body.   The animal passion he emulated was beyond description.  She soon felt her back against the wall; her legs wrapped around his body as his  lips traversed the length of her neck. She suddenly realized the elevator was moving and the door had popped open how many times she wasn't sure."Stop,"her breath ragged.
"What?"
"We can't do this."
His mouth feverishly engaged hers in a  heated battle once again and temporarily waged the war against her rationality before she extinguished the fire."We can't do this here."
"Then where do you suggest we continue this?"
"I don't think we should continue this,"she responded; her body still very much intoxicated with the feel of his still pressed invitingly against her."Let me down now."
"You can 't ever just let go can you?"
"No because I'm thinking for two people now.  I'm not the selfish woman you met almost a year ago."
"So that's how it's gonna be?  I actually defended you in there and this is the payback I get for it?"
"You expected a cheap screw in the elevator?"
"That's not what I meant.  I was going to ask you to dinner but we got a little carried away.  Seems you're all I care about in the world anymore and it scares the hell out of me,"as he let her go.
She was stunned.  This was the same man that treated her like a cheap whore the  night he met her and now this?  Of course she acted like a twenty dollar hooker the night they met but she'd grown up since then, thanks to her beautiful little girl.  She knew she felt something more but now he put emotions out there as though they  were her own.  He knew her inside out .
"You are speechless.  Let me record this moment."
"How in the hell are you planning on having dinner with me with all the press constantly around?"
"I have bodyguards remember?"
"Oh joy.  That'll be  a fun date."
"You know what you get when it comes to us.  You've been around your friend long enough to know that."
"Yeah I do and I'm not so sure I want  my child growing up like that."
"So are you just gonna give up on love before you even give it a chance ever?"
"I don't know how to fall in love anymore.  I lost the one man I ever truly loved in my life to his family.  Apparently they didn't think I was good enough for him.   And you know how I lost him?  He was a police officer.  His family tore us apart and the  night we were going to   elope, he got a call. So  don't talk to me about love," she pushed her way past him and through the sea of reporters as the doors slid closed on his stunned reaction.
