Chapter 5
The next afternoon she was socializing with the girls by the pool."So tell me Tam.  Did you and Nick go out?"Kristin inquired of her.
"As a matter of fact, we went out last night,"she glared at Howie across the way by the brick barbecue grill for the hundredth time it seemed.
"Something wrong between you and Howie?"LeighAnne had noticed her undeniable glaring more than once
"It's a long story I'd rather not get into today OK?"
"OK.  Hey Liz! "Kristin greeted."Did you hear?  Tam had a date with our little Nick last night."
"So you took my advice.  I'm glad.  Did you have a good time?"
"Yes we did!"Nick swooped her away from the girls and held her over the pool.
"Nick Carter don't you dare do it!"she demanded.
"I don't think you have much choice in the matter,"he mischeviously grinned at her.
"Nick!"she screamed as he released her into the pool.  She came up out from under the water and in between his legs where he sat.  She held herself up on the material of his basic blue swim trunks with racing stripes down the sides and glared at him. "You are so dead!"she smiled as she looked into his big baby blues.
"Really?"he played along.
"Yes,"she moved toward his lips and slowly moved further and further back until she was underwater and he fell into the water after losing his balance.  She popped back up and found herself face to face with him."That was good."
"Really?"she smiled.
"No!"he playfully dunked her.
"Remember last night?"
"How could I forget?"
"Then just remember you won't be seeing any more of that if you continue to do this."
"Okay,"he did it again.
"Nick,"she scolded.
"What?"
"I lied.  You won't be getting any more of this,"she pulled his lips to hers, the faint taste of chlorine lacing their kiss.
"This backfired on me,"Susan noticed as they continued to play in the pool.
"No it didn't,"Liz said.
"What do you know that I don't?"
"Let's just say I have my sources.  Howie placed a call to her lastnight kept them from doing anything."
"And that's a good thing because?  I want him to think she's the tramp that she is."
"Susan.  Tammy is far from what you think she is."
"So  you're on her side now?"
"No.  Keep it up and I won't be on yours.  I'll shove her into Howie's arms myself if I have to."
"What's up with Nick and Tam?"AJ noticed the games going on in the pool as he flipped the last burger onto the plate where the rest of them lay.
"I don't know but I know a way to separate them quickly,"Brian noticed Howie's uneasiness with the situation."Come and get it!"he yelled at the top of his lungs.
"You hungry?"Nick looked to Tamara.
" A little."
"Good.  'Cuz I'm starving,"he beat her out of the pool and waited for her exit.
He took her hand."Shall we?"as he escorted her to the table.
"Well it got him out of  the pool. I didn't know it wouldn't separate them,"Brian looked to Howie apologetically.
"It's okay.  I had my chance I guess and I lost it."
"You didn't lose just yet.  Liz invited this friend of hers today.  I think you might just like her,"AJ grabbed the mound of burgers and followed them to the tables.
"Maybe so,"Howie engaged himself in the thought of somebody else.
"Liz tells me you're in the ad business,"Howie carried on his conversation with Liz's friend Melinda but couldn't help noticing how well Nick and Tamara were getting along. God I wish I was the one that'd been kissing those lips minutes ago.
"Actually I'm a behind the scenes girl. I do print ad.  Graphic Design,"she responded .
"So have you done anything I would know,"he feigned interest not really caring about what she'd done.
"I've done the backgrounds for the teen magazine's little girl ads like lip gloss and fake fingernails."
"So I have seen some of it then."
"Would you excuse me just a minute?"she requested of him.
"Sure,"he said as she left his side.
"Would you excuse me for a minute Nick?  I need to speak with someone."
"No problem,"he kissed her cheek and released her hand.  She made her way acrossed the lawn to him.
"Tammy. How's it going?  I missed you last night."
"Don't play stupid with me.  I know you called last night and I didn't appreciate it either."
"I just wanted to get together."
"No you didn't.  You just didn't want me with somebody else."
"So what if I didn't?"
"It didn't work.  I was out last night and I was having a good time until your little charade ."
"Is it a crime for me to care about my friends?"
"It's not a crime to care about your friends but when you start acting like a jealous boyfriend and have no right to then, yes, it is a crime."
