Chapter 3
Tamara woke to the ringing telephone next to her bed. "Hello?" "Stay away from him." "Liz?" "Keep your hands off AJ." "What in the hell are you talking about?" "I heard you slept with AJ. Stay away." "Look Liz, I wouldn't touch AJ with a ten foot pole. So what makes you think that I would share the same bed with him?" "Susan." "Then there's your answer." "You mean?" "Look Liz, I like AJ but not in the way Susan wants you to believe." "I'm starting to get used to it." "How 'bout we do lunch today? Just you and me." "Sure. Pick you up in an hour?" "Good idea. See you then,"she hung up before realizing Howie was still on her couch. She scurried down the hall and into the living room. She nudged Howie on the shoulder. "Howie. Wake up,"she insisted. "Tam?"he responded groggily. "You've gotta go Howie." "Why?"he sat up and she handed him his shoes. "Liz will be here in an hour to pick me up. We have a lunch date. I got her off my back for the silly AJ rumor but I'm not so sure she's not buying the one about you still. Scoot," she said as he put his shoes on. "You know you look good any time of day,"he commented on her state of appearance. She was so panicked she forgot she was still wearing an old oversized T-shirt with nothing underneath. "Go!"she practically shoved him out the door.
Howie arrived home and turned his machine on just as the telephone rang. He shut the machine off and grabbed the cordless as he kicked his shoes off and fell on the couch."Two nights Howard?! What's going on with you and Tammy?"AJ blasted into his ear. "What are you talking about?" "Tammy and I have nothing going on. Do you honestly think I'd get involved with somebody so soon after I broke up with another? Trust me on this one AJ, I've thought about it but that's all I can be accused of. Besides, what makes you think I spent another night with her?" "Susan." "And I've known you for like how long? Let's not let something like this get in the way of our friendship. She's hurt and she's gonna take it out on anybody she knows she can be hurt by it." "True, but still,"AJ reasoned. "You know what AJ? When you can be reasonable, call me,"he hung up leaving his friend no time to protest.
