Chapter 9
"Back up,"Sherl interrupted."Vanessa got married." "We were drunk. We didn't know what we were doing." "Well that rock on your finger sure wouldn't indicate you didn't." "What's the big deal? We're probably gonna find a way to end it anyway." "You think you've got it that easy? Honey, your troubles are just beginning." "Don't you think I know that?" "So what are you planning to do?" "Wait until he calls me this afternoon when he's done with everything." "Oh hell no you're not! I don't care who he is. This is gonna be taken care of here and now." "Sherl. Let's just leave it for now,"Terri interveened. "Why? So he can put her off a little longer?" "Do you really think the guy wants to be married any more than Van does right now? They're both young and they don't need this in their lives right now. It'll be taken care of." "Right now,"Sherl defied."Move over Nes." "Don't do this Sherl." "What are you gonna do if I do?" "This is Vanessa's problem. Let her deal with it the way she wants. She's a grown up." "This from a thirty five year old woman that's had two serious relationships in her life." "Better to go for quality than quantity,"Terri returned. "At least I don't find the ones one step away from the altar." "I'm leaving. This is ridiculous. Please scoot over Shannon." "That's it. Run away." Terri turned."It's a hell of a lot better than staying here and arguing with you over god only knows what when the only problem is Vanessa's little marraige mistake. Excuse me,"She turned and made her way out of the restaurant. Almost out of instinct Kevin slid from the table practically unnoticed by the others when he noticed Terri leaving the table. With AJ's little announcement they should be involved for a good half an hour before they'd even notice.
He rushed toward the elevator he saw almost separating her from him. He boarded the metal carriage standing next to her. She moved to the opposite corner. He moved closer to her. She scooted over onto the side."I can play this game as long as you can,"he offered. "Do you think I really care?" "What did I do?" "Let's see. You screwed me and left me in the middle of the night. Does that about cover it for you?" she sarcastically remarked. "You know why I left in the middle of the night?" "Why?" "That there rose poking out of your notebook is the reason I didn't share your bed all night long. I'm not a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy Terri." "You want me to believe it took you all night to come up with this one lousy little rose?" "Because it's true." "Then explain the girlfriend." "She and I are on the outs. The guys don't know yet because I haven't said anything yet." "Because you're just so gentlemanly." "I am a gentleman. If I were less of a man, I'd be doing this,"he drew her against himself and roughly projected his lips upon hers. God he felt wonderful! but no. She gathered enough strength to shove him off of her. "Dammit Kevin! You've got a girlfriend." "That didn't bother you last night." "That's when I knew I'd never see you again. Let me quote you,"Let my memory be but your guide". Go Cassanova go! Which number girl am I on this tour? I know I can't be the first you've fucked and walked away." His jaw dropped as the elevator door opened on her floor."You might wanna close that before a bug flies in,"she turned with her items in hand and left him. What was she gonna do? This guy wasn't gonna give up and her friends! That was another thing. Maybe she should just go home she thought as she slid the key card through her door lock.
