"You don't have to tell me anything until you're ready. You know that don't you?" She tried to control her incessant string of sobs but it was just no use. She simply nodded in response to his kindness. For a brief second she believed she didn't deserve his simple gesture of friendship. Perhaps didn't want it because it was his very gender that put her in this emotional state. "It's gonna be okay."Stroking her arm soothingly. He seemed to think it was but did he really know? Should she really care? He was here telling her it was. She had to believe it was. Even if it was just for the time being. The onslaught of tears consumed her once again. It was just no use. There was too much pent up emotion in there to keep it locked up. Silently he pulled her in toward his chest as the river of tears consumed her. He wanted to make whatever horrendous act Nick had imposed on her go away but he knew he couldn't. Not without knowing what it was. And she wasn't ready to say anymore at this point in time. She needed somebody else's strength. Somebody's shoulder to lean on and right now that would be his. He couldn't understand why she couldn't trust her own boyfriend with even this much until she revealed it tonight. He held her and let her have it out. He couldn't really do anymore than that. The tears turned to sobs and sobs turned to silence. He looked down and found her fast asleep. What was he supposed to do now? He couldn't leave her without her knowing. He eased back against the mountain of pillows and continued to comfort her. He figured he could stay awake long enough for Howie to take over here. He figured wrong. He was sound asleep with her in his arms.
Howie waltzed into the room figuring Dianna would still be pounding into that damn keyboard like she had for the last three months but nothing prepared him for the sight before him. She was wrapped up in another man's arms and contentedly too it looked. And Brian no less. God! He was a married man. That couldn't be right. There had to be a simple explanation. Although he couldn't come up with any right now. She was in somebody else's arms! She wouldn't even let him fucking touch her and yet there she was. In somebody else's fucking arms! He should wake them up but what would he say? He was so damn pissed off right now he wasn't sure he would be civil. Then again, he didn't have to be civil. No! I'll just come back in the morning and find out if there is a reasonable explanation for this. He slipped the card in the slot and prayed to God he wouldn't happen on the same sight he came upon last night. Unfortunately the fates wouldn't deal him that hand. There they were. Sound asleep and still in each other's arms. Nick was right after all. She'd moved on. And on to a married man no less. Did she have no shame? Certainly didn't seem to be the case. And Brian of all men replacing him? What's that about? The decent, upstanding moral one replacing him. Fuck! This had to be a dream. Just had to be he thought. He was gonna wake up anytime here and she'd be alone in their bed. He closed his eyes and returned to the same view when he opened them again. He calmly cleared his throat. He was gonna remain calm he kept reminding himself. When his first attempt at rousing them failed, he tried a little firmer approach. He cleared his throat loudly .
Dianna slowly stirred; her gaze focusing on the body next to hers. It wasn't Howie. Oh this did not look good. What happened last night? The blue eyes that gave her comfort last night were now wide open. This couldn't look good yet it was completely harmless. "So this is what you've been doing all those nights I've left you alone,"Howie accused. "This is not what it looks like,"Dianna calmly replied. Brian slipped out of the bed and found his shoes. "What exactly is it then Dianna cuz it sure as hell looked like something." "Brian stopped by last night to see how I was doing. I was a little upset and I must have fallen asleep." "That's a good one Dianna. Why don't you scribble that down in your diary there?"He shot back in reference to her computer. "Lay off Howie,"Brian interveened. Howie turned. The fire in his eyes was understandable but he really was making something out of nothing." Why don't you get the hell out of here and Dianna will be following you shortly. In fact, why don't you take her with you now? Save me any more aggrevation." "Would you listen to yourself? Dianna needed a friend last night and I just happened to be here. That's all. I was gonna leave once you came in. She cried herself to sleep." "You're a gem Bri. I come back to my room to find my girlfriend in your arms when she hasn't let me touch her in three fucking months. You're telling me to be calm?! I don't think so!" "I know what it looked like but that's all it was Howie. Come on now." "You know Nick was right after all. She got bored with me and moved on again." "Nick is the reason she needed a friend last night and if you were any kind of man, you'd have known it long ago."
"Nick has nothing to do with this." "The hell he doesn't. I don't know what he did but it sure has hurt her." Nick, NICK,Nick,NICK, Nick, NICK! That's all anybody ever talks about around here. Her head was about ready to explode."NICK RAPED ME! HE FUCKING RAPED ME!" The result of her statement brought an unbearable silence to the room. But she did end their fighting. That's what she wanted right? Shit! She didn't know what she wanted. Eyes were widened and turned on her. Nick? He's done some low things to her but rape? Then again that would explain her distance from me lately. Nick? My best friend Nick? I mean, I know what he's done to her but even he's beyond that. Isn't he? The whole idea was still being processed by the two when the beating on the door interrupted the tension. Neither of the men had really moved from the spot they were standing on and neither one made an attempt to move for the door. Since neither was moving, she exhausted a frustrated sigh and made her way to the door. She yanked the it open and barked,"What the hell do you want?!" Not even realizing the party on the other side until he responded. She'd have taken this out on anybody but she looked up and there he was. Tall, blonde and Shit! The reason for her anger facing her right there. "Well you know what I want but you haven't been around to take care of that lately,"he remarked. The everpresent smirk accompanying it. "Well if you didn't feel the need to take it when you want, you might be getting it a little more often." She knew it would provoke him but she didn't care anymore. He couldn't do anymore damage than he'd already done anyway. If he'd a been a steam engine, you could have seen the steam blowing out his ears. She should know better dammit! He forced her up against the door." I think you need to learn some manners Dianna. Seems you learned nothing from our last little encounter. Only this time
