Chapter 8
Eight months down the road she was at one of Kristy's final fittings when Kristy decided to get a little personal with her wedding planner."Can I ask you something Kara?"she held her arms out straight as the seamstress continued making adjustments on her.
"What might that be Kristy?"
"Are you seeing anyone right now?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Just curiosity more than anything but I saw the way you and Nick's friend were getting along at Brian's wedding and I couldn't help but notice how well you two seem to interact."
"That was nothing.  I talk to people all day long."
"Not like that you don't.  I saw the way your eyes lit up at the sight of him.   And he's got it way bad for you too.  Too bad Angela's back in the picture.  Seems somebody gave him some bad advice."
"That's too bad.  He seems like a nice enough guy."
"He is.  I'd just love to kill the one that gave him that advice though.  Angela is bad news."
"Really now?"
"You don't wanna hear about this I'm sure."
"Please go on."
The seamstress pricke the curve of Kristy's hip accidentally as she yelped."I'm so sorry,"she apologized.
"It's okay.  Just a little pain.  So you haven't been seeing anyone in your life seriously?"
"No.  It's almost easier that way for me.  Men just seem to get in the way for me."
"Maybe you just haven't found the right one."
"Maybe.  So tell me all about Nick,"she diverted the attention from her love  to Kristy's
"Where do I start?"
"At the beginning."
"Well,"Kristy started rattling off the story of their disastrous first date and the proceeding thereafter up to the day he proposed to her.
"Sounds like you are one lucky girl."
" I know I am,"she quipped with delight as the seamstress took in the final seam.
"We're done for today.  We'll  make arrangements for the final fitting in two weeks,"The seamstress announced.
"Cool,"Kristy returned.   As she dressed, she lit up the room with her glow."I wish you could be as happy as Nick and I are."
"My turn to get personal here.  Isn't it hard living with a musician though?"
"It has it's ups and downs but there are more ups than downs if you know what I mean."
Kara politely smiled.  If Kristy only knew her fiance' would be rising to the occasion for her in a few months."I understand."
"I just wish Howie could find that in you."
"His name is Howie?"
"He never told you his name?"
"No."
"Does he know yours?"
"No."
"I'll have to give the boy a hard time about that one.  In the meantime,  I hope you find someone."
"You're sweet but I'm doing just fine on my own right now.  I truly believe in fate and if the good lord intended for me to have a man right now, he'd be here right now,"as Nick walked through the door of the bridal boutique."Hey you,"Kristy wrapped him in a lingering kiss.
"You know it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride's dress,"Howie interrupted the young lovers.
"I think you're referring to the saying that it's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding,"Kara invited his challenge.
"I do believe you're right."
"Wouldn't this just look gorgeous on me?"Angela wove through the racks with a form fitting wedding gown.
Kara smiled through the agonizing torture of seeing the actual individual that held the heart of the man she knew should be hers."What do you think uh?" Howie approached.
"Kara,"she glared toward him,"Are you a first time bride?"Kara approached.
Angela defensively weaved her arm through Howie's and replied,"Well, yes."
"It's a beautiful dress no doubt but I think maybe you should go for something a little more simplistic,"she offered as she grabbed a beautiful ivory gown from the rack next to her.
Angela pouted at Kara's offered advice."I really like this one."
"Maybe someday princess,"he consoled her with a kiss.
"Something going on that I don't know about Kris?"Nick whispered into her ear at the show being displayed for them.
"You don't even wanna know this one.  Just let it play out."
Kara cringed.  As Angela returned the dressed to it's appropriate rack, she replied,"So Howie.  She's very lovely.  I can see why you went back to her."
"How'd you know my name?"
"Kristy told me."
"I love her.  Don't screw it up."
"You don't have to convince me.  Just keep telling yourself that and maybe someday you'll believe it,"As she turned to Kristy."Let's get that appointment set up for you and how are those tuxes coming along?"she addressed Nick as they made their way to the desk with the seamstress."I'm sorry Claudia.  So when is good for you?"
Kristy opened her planner as did Kara.
Howie watched across the room as they did their planning coming to the realization that he may have just lost out on the one woman in the world that could make him happy yet she didn't seem to want to give up the one thing he despised about her; her career.
