| "Something bothering you Kara?"As she and Kristy lay out by their pool sunning themselves a few weeks later. "What?"she turned her head toward Kristy. "I'm not blind to it Kara. I see the way you react toward AJ. Is there something going on that I don't know about or don't wanna know about?" "I'm not sure what you're wanting from me Kristy." "It's you and me now. Nick's out with his brother for the day and it's just you and me. What's going on with AJ?" "It's what did and still is." "Excuse me?" "I met AJ about five years ago. I'd just moved here and really didn't know anybody. He was larger than life as they say when I met him. Shit, I was still a kid with stars in her eyes. I didn't know any better. He helped get me set up. I thought he cared about me at one point until the night he flew into the condo he'd purchased for me and took me by force." "He raped you?" "No. Not that night." "I don't understand Kara." "I thought it was just something new we were trying at that point but the attacks became more frequent when he started having trouble with Amanda. I was just his toy. His release when he needed something to take it out on." "So did he rape you or not?" "You wanna know how I've built my business up to where it is today?" "He gave me the money to start it if I'd keep quiet but I had to pay the interest on it." "And that interest would be?" "His." "Even after what he did to you?" "He attacked me yes but it was because I told him I was leaving him." "It still wasn't right." |
| "I know but I didn't have a lot of alternatives." "So how much more "interest" do you owe him?" "If I played my cards right, he won't be needing me anymore." "I don't understand." "The day of your barbeque, he came to the office. He thought he was gonna have his way with me but I fought him off at every turn. I even gave him a little something to remember me by." "That's why he hates you." "This has got to stay between us Kris okay?" "I keep my promises to my friends. I ain't about to start re negging on them now." "Thank you. I just need a little more time with Howie. I've tried to tell him and AJ somehow cuts us off at every corner. I just don't know how he's gonna take it." "I wouldn't worry about that. I think he's gonna come to your defense if anything. He loves you." I hope so Kara thought to herself as their conversation ended. |
