Chapter 13
She couldn't believe how much her life had changed in a matter of a week's time.  She had decided to give up money for love.  There would be no more secret rendezvous' for her. She had him now.  She knew the time was fast approaching their separate departure times.  She understood he couldn't risk the news of a new girlfriend with the old one still hot on his heels but oblivious to the fact that he no longer loved her.  He loved Kara now.  God that sounded great.  Love.  She never knew how beautiful the world could be seeing it through the eyes of love.  Oh she saw young couples in love everyday but she never saw love through her own eyes.  It was wonderful, fantastic, spontaneous and the list went on and on.  She stood on the balcony of his room soaking in the tropical ambiance on the last eve of their stay on the islands.
She felt the warmth of his arms surround her as he leaned his head upon her shoulder."I wish this didn't have to end."
"Only the tropical part has to end Kara.  We can create our own paradise at home."
"Promise me one thing."
"Anything."
"If you ever leave me, don't just walk out without saying anything okay?"
"But I don't ever intend on leaving you.  Do you plan on leaving me?"
"What?"
"You brought it up,"he turned back into the room.
"I don't.  I've just been left one too many times to know that it can happen,"she followed him in ruining the most beautiful moment they could have share yet on the island.
"You're being ridiculous."
"Then why did you ask if I would?  Who's being ridiculous now?"
"Do you thrive on pushing people out of your life because if you don't watch it, I'm out of it.  I told you I'm here as long as you want me to be.  So if you want me out, say so now."
"Look, I'm sorry.  I just got a little scared with us leaving each other for awhile."
"It's not gonna be that long Kara.  I love you.  You have to know that by now.  I thought you felt the same."
"I do,"she turned away trying to hide the tears welling up in the ridges of her eyes; threatening to spill over if he saw her in that state.
"Turn around then."
"What?"the tears overflowed from her eyes.
He immediately pulled her into his arms.  He had seen her this way the other night on the balcony but he let her have her solitude before she returned to their bed.  He didn't want to see her hurt ever but what could he do to console a pain he had no part of?  A pain he had never inflicted upon her.  He just wished whatever it was, that she would eventually be able to tell him about it.
She did love him but memories of the night AJ took the piece of her that kept her from loving another man kept dancing through her memory like a repeat episode of a telivision series you had no desire to be a part of ."I think it's time I tell you something."
"You know you can tell me anything."
"That guy. That guy was,"she was interrupted by the ringing of his phone."Let it ring."
"I can't.  It might be something important."
"Okay"
"I'm all yours after this call okay."
"Okay,"she agreed reluctantly as he answered the phone.
"Howie my man. What's going on in that lusciuos tropical paradise you're in boy?"AJ's voice filtered through the phone.
"Age.  How'd you find me?"
"I have my sources.  So how ya doing?  Score any hula babies  yet?"
"Can't say that I have.  Just enjoying the scenery."
His voice drifted into the background of her thoughts and before she knew it she was so wrapped up she didn't know that Howie had finished his call.
"I'm all yours."
"It can wait."
"You sure?"
"I'm sure.  Why don't we go grab a bite okay?"
"Anything you want,"but his intuition told him not to pursue it at this point.
