Chapter 10
The wedding turned out beautifully and the reception seemed to be taking care of itself. A good time was being had by all and Kara decided it was time for her to leave when Kristy approached her."You can't leave yet." "I think it's time I did. Your guests are all having a good time." "All except one,"she turned at his voice. Why'd he always have to look so good? The perfectly tailored designer outfits he wore everytime she saw him nearly took her breath away and this time was no exception. His eyes bore through her as though he saw to the very depths of her. "I really think it's time for me to be going,"she turned to Kristy. "I don't think so." "What are you doing?"she glared at Kristy "What you two should have been doing a long time ago. goodbye,"she returned to Nick's side. She turned back to Howie."I don't know what she's trying to prove but I think we should just leave things as is." "It's not over Kara." "What do you want from me?" "I want a chance. I want you to stop what it is you find so fascinating about your second career." "And I want you to leave me alone." "So you never have to feel what it's like to have a heart?"
Her hand cracked across his cheek as she dealt him a glare that would have killed on contact had it been real."Don't ever presume to know how I feel. Now you have yourself a good time this evening and enjoy your friend's wedding,"she walked out of the reception hall head held high but inside she was breaking down. He knew what buttons to push and when to push them. "What's going on?"Kristy approached him. "I wish I knew,"he rubbed the pain invading his cheek."She has a great right you know." "I didn't but I'll see if I can't find out what's going on,"Kristy rushed out of the hall."Kara!"she yelled as she caught sight of her dipping into her car. She got back out. "What's going on with you and Howie?" "He's got a girlfriend." "He had a girlfriend. He got rid of her." "I'll just be the rebounder." "You won't be a rebound in her case. He's realized she was the biggest mistake he ever made." "I can't Kristy. Besides, why are you so concerned about me?" "Because I think you deserve a guy like him and I'm never wrong about these connections Kara." "I'm talking about me. Why do you keep coming to my rescue? This is your wedding day." "I like you. Planning my wedding with you was like planning it with my best friend. I hope we can be friends." "Okay. And as for Howie?" "Well that's something you two'll have to work out now. I don't perform miracles you know,"she smiled. "You're a sweet girl. I think I'm gonna go now though okay? I've wreaked enough havoc on this thing already." "Whatever you want. Should I tell him anything?" "Just tell him to meet me at my offices Tuesday morning. I'm getting away for the weekend." "I'll tell him. You take care of you okay?" "I will and call me when the honeymoon's over okay?" "Honey we'll never get a chance to become friends if you wait for that to happen." Kara giggled. "You think I'm kidding." "I know you're not. You're a lucky girl. He loves you to death." "And that's how it's gonna stay too. I'll send Howie your message and I'll talk to you later." "Okay,"she turned to get in her vehicle. Maybe the few days out of town would do her good after all. A change of scenery is always good.
