History
In 1860s- English surgeon named William Little wrote the first medical descriptions of a puzzling disorder that struck children in the first years of life. - saw that it caused stiff, spastic muscles - children had difficulty grasping objects, crawling, and walking. - They did not get better as they grew up nor did they become worse. - called Little's Disease or Cerebral Paralysis for many years , now known as Cerebral Palsy.
- not until 1897 that Sigmund Freud suggested that a difficult birth was not cause but symptom of other effects on fetal development.
