| The Hypocrisy Of The Campus Liberals | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| I know there has been many an article written about the pro-USA rally that was held at CSULB on Tuesday, February 18, but there is something that I really feel I must comment on. I attended the rally and I agreed with most, if not all, of the things that were said by the speakers despite the fact that I don't consider myself a Republican, per se. As many of you probably know from my previous articles, however, I am pro-war and pro-USA, two issues that I am in total agreement with the Republicans on. That being said, why should I be made out to be a racist because I love my country? | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| There was an article that ran in this paper the day after the rally in which one of our Campus Progressive friends, Uduak-Joe Ntuk, said, "The Republicans are all white with one paid-token black guy, one Asian, mostly white males and blonde bimbos in tee-shirts." What correlation does this have with being pro-USA? What I found so ironic about this comment is the fact that Ntuk decided to comment on the race of the Bush-supporters, rather than making an intelligent statement about why he is anti-war! | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| This is a perfect example of what really gets under my skin: yahoos, whether they are Campus Progressives or pacifist hippies, that attend a pro-USA rally only to bash the race of Bush supporters! If they are so involved in their anti-war cause, why not make a statement with at least some empirical or substantial evidence supporting it? The answer is quite simple: they don't have a shred of evidence to support their cause because they twist most of the facts around simply to agree with their stance! | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Case in point: Sheryl Crow, a self-professed anti-war musician, who uses rhetoric and contempt for our current president as the basis for supporting her cause. Anybody who watched the Grammys on Sunday, February 23, probably saw Sheryl Crow with her "War Is Not The Answer" t-shirt. The reason I find this so hypocritical and asinine is that Crow went to Bosnia during the Clinton administration to entertain the troops stationed there! Now, with a Republican in office, Crow so quickly changes her tune. So often is the case with these liberals, so often do they say one thing and then do another. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Now for an example closer to home. In response to my January 27 article entitled "Pacifists, And Why I Hate Them," Sheila Ketabian wrote a letter to the editor in which she challenged many of my points. Something I found funny, however, was her blatant disregard for the facts on the issues she challenged. For instance, in one rebuttal to my statement about how the Gulf war was fought in part to liberate Kuwait, she says, "The Gulf War was not fought for the 'liberation' of Kuwait, but rather in response to Iraq's growing control over oil and its revenues, contrary to U.S. corporate interests." My question for Ketabian is this: what, exactly, did she call the huge army labeled "IRAQ" that was stationed in Kuwait at the time? According to http://www.merriamwebster.com, the word "liberate" means "to free (as a country) from domination by a foreign power." Applying this definition to real life, we see that the United States of America (the emancipator) was liberating Kuwait (the country) from Iraq (the foreign power), simultaneously securing our oil interests and protecting our allies. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| I could go on and on ad infinitum with examples of this manipulating of words by campus groups but I think you get the idea. Before you blindly believe the maniacal ravings of some campus lunatics, please crack open a book and read for yourself about what really happened regarding the situation in question. Doing this will not only make you more intelligent, but will also show you how much these groups twist the truth so it suits their ludicrous ambitions. | ||||||||||||||||||||||
