| Senate Reconvenes, Honors CSULB Officer | ||||||
| The CSULB Academic Senate met last Tuesday for the first time in almost six weeks, updating the working rules of the organization and honoring a highly influential individual that served the campus with infinite dedication. | ||||||
| The working rules of the A.S. consist of the policies and procedures that the board follow when performing various activities, such as passing resolutions and appointing members. Many times last semester conflicts within the set of laws would arise, and would have to be addressed before the Senate could continue. These senatorial gaffes would slow down proceedings and, in effect, waste time, so the senators decided to amend some of the rules in order to promote consistency. | ||||||
| The changes made include initially sending resolutions to the Senate instead of the Documents and Bylaws committee, as well as precisely defining the role of the pro-tempore as opposed to the chair himself. These amendments to the working rules were passed with eleven members in-favor. | ||||||
| In other news, the A.S. passed a resolution to recognize the achievements of Sergeant Bonnie Myers, who left CSULB this semester to continue her career by joining the Manhattan Beach Police Department. | ||||||
| According to the resolution, Myers began at the CSU-system in the early eighties and arrived on this campus in June of 1989, where she built the Campus Service Officer program up from five volunteers to "the forty-five paid students that it employs today." Besides working with the University Police Department, Myers also held positions ranging from the Vice-Chair of the Staff Council to a member of the Forty-Niner Shops Board of Directors. | ||||||
| "She had a good service record on campus and has contributed a great deal to the campus community," noted Senator Erik Jolliff, the author of the resolution. "She always embraced all student activities, attended all Senate meetings, and acknowledged the work we have done, so we felt it was appropriate to acknowledge her for the great work she had done," Jolliff added. | ||||||
