Senate Chambers Dedicated To Campus Figure
Stuart L. Farber, a fixture at Cal State Long Beach who served over 42 years of public service, was recognized by the Associated Students Senate on Wednesday, when they dedicated the Senate chambers after him.
President Robert Maxson and other administration officials were there to congratulate Farber on the honor bestowed upon him by the Senate. Vice President of Student Services Douglas Robinson introduced Farber, acknowledging his "hard work and dedication to [the university]." Maxson, calling the Senate chambers the "room that students built," expressed his admiration for not only Farber, but the senators and students that he said, "serve as the heartbeat of [the campus]."
Farber was a professor in health sciences and human resource management, as well as dean of student affairs and assistant vice president of student services; he received a United States Congressional citation as well as the Golden Apple award, which recognized his "commitment to excellence in teaching fellow students"; and he initiated the office of judicial affairs and raised $40,000 from the city of Long Beach to help to help fund the recycling center.
The resolution to dedicate the Senate chambers to Farber reads that he is "most assuredly one such commendable individual who has left a legacy of public service based on the principle of personal characteristics and selfless and untiring public service."
Following his recognition, Farber gave a motivational presentation to the Senate focusing on what he called "Team Power."
In other news, several empty positions on the Senate and Judicial Board were filled, including that of senator of the college of natural sciences & mathematics and the position of Chief Justice. Senators Morgan Wheeler and Erik Jolliff were also appointed as senate representatives to the Daily 49er Publications board of directors, and Wheeler vowed to "ensure the autonomy and quality of the school papers."
