| Also known as house brownies because of their love of housework, these little fairies are the best of companions. However, they do have a naughty streak, particularly when they feel wronged. Brownies often dance in saucers of milk and food left out for your cat or dog, and the way to tell if a brownie has been there is to look at the patterns their tiny feet have made around the saucers. Inquisitive by nature, brownies are the fairies that take little objects from around the house to examine and sometimes use. Needles, pins, anything small and shiny, brownies will take quite happily and hide from you, unless you specifically ask for them back. Light and dark brown and sometimes purple in colour, with pale blue eyes and thick, shaggy, brown hair, brownies are small (around 3 feet high) with delicate features and large pointed ears. Their wings are small and brushlike, and they are often seen carrying things in their arms as they hop and flit about your home. Brownies don't usually bother with clothes as a rule; the most they might wear is a small collection of rags, but usually nothing at all. It is well known that if you give a gift of smart clothing to brownies, they will leave you immediately. It is not entirely certain whether this is because they are insulted by the gift and disappear to be off by themselves in their raggedy altogether, or whether they are happy to finally have a smart suit! |
