| 1995... Alvernian Prestige and Otis Gigli, Face as a House: The Family Feud�This was a turning point in Ballroom. At a mini-ball the week before a statement was made that implied Karans only excelled at mini-balls and not at major ones. This face as a House was an example of the House of Karan taking a stand! The crowd lost it! 1996... Mariah Revlon, Grand Prize Femme Queen Face, becoming a celebrity: Unbreak My Heart, Renee Karan WAS Toni Braxton. For years we bragged of their resemblance, but it was on this night, with Toni Braxton�s pictures held next to Renee�s it was proven and the crowd lost it! 1996... The Mugler Ball, Face as a House: The Dark of Night meets the moonlight! The House of Karan came, and came strong in all Brown with Leopard accents�All the darker children were in the mix�Donald, Setor and Glenn�with lighter �moonlight� accents�Joey and Renee were the book ends (this one we broke up and won!) 1997... Grand Prize, Runway Ruler in all Black: The Black Widow�Setor Karan broke down Butch Queens, Femme Queens and everything in between�she was the only woman on the runway and she beat everyone that walked, everyone! Prentice Karan walked, Mariah Revlon, Tyra Allure all heavy hitters were on the runway, but Setor stood alone! Although Ricky Revlon won, it was Setor Karan�s night! 1997... The Revlon Ball, Drags Runway from a Foreign Country: China Doll�Naiyma Karan pecked viciously down the runway twirling her Chinese paper umbrella playfully, not one girl walking wanted any parts of the Diva that night! (She walked away with the trophy!) 1997... The Fire Ball, Femme Queen Face with a mask: A night at the Opera�Renee Karan looked breathtaking! Her hair was a rich crimson colored crew cut, her dress an elegant black evening gown. Her shoe matched her hair exactly, a rich crimson Prada stiletto. The mask, a one of a kind, hand painted Masquerade Mask attached to a stick. We found the mask at a small boutique on Rittenhouse Square�She looked amazing. When she lost the crowd booed and hissed and actually beat on the elevated runway with their fists�not one of those who protested was a Karan! 1999... The Revlon Ball, Performance as a House: Black kittens in White mittens�Tony Karan, Lemonhead Karan and Aamina Karan�three the hard way! They broke it up so severely that everyone from the balcony to the judges� panel was on their feet! |
| 1999... The Dorian Corey Awards Ball, Grand Prize Runway: Off with your HEAD! Prentice Karan had a latex sculpture of Jay (Ebony) Blahnik�s severed head made and dressed in a crimson crushed velvet dress with a three-foot train proceeded down the Runway. Jay was totally John Galliano down to the red Cossack ponytail in the center of his baldhead to his burning red contact lenses� It was one of the most anticipated battles ever! 2000... The Revlon Ball Junior-Vs-Senior Sex Siren: Lil Kim never rocked the house like this! Dawn Karan painted into a black patent leather dress and accompanied by dancers proved that [A Queen is a Queen, not because she has failed, but a Queen is a Queen because failure has not stopped her�] she was taking over in the new millennium�HA! |
