| LEBANON ENTERPRISE 12/12/1941 A. J. HOURIGAN, 59, EXPIRES AT RILEY CANCER IS FATAL YESTERDAY TO VETERAN TELEGRAPH OPERATOR Albert Johnson Hourigan, 59, for many years a telegraph operator for the L&N Railroad Company, died at 12:45 o'clock yesterday morning at his home at Riley, his death having been attributed to cancer. Although he had been in failing health for about 2 years his condition did not become critical until 2 weeks ago. Since that time he declined rapidly until the end came. Mr. Hourigan was a son of James (P) and Grace Johnson Hourigan, both deceased, and born in the county on March 16, 1882. When a young man he learned the telegraph business and until forced to retire because of ill health, served in that capacity for the railroad company in this city, Riley and Greensburg. At the later place he also served as a ticket and freight agent. Surviving Mr. Hourigan are his wife, who was Miss Hazel Hourigan, daughter of John Davie and Mary Lou Hourigan; three sons, A. J. Hourigan Jr., J. P. Hourigan and Charles Curtis Hourigan all of Riley; three daughters, Miss Marie Hourigan, who is taking a nurse's training course at St. Anthony's Hospital in Louisville, and Misses Anna Lou and Alberta Hourigan of Riley; two brothers, Roy B. Hourigan, Marion County Sheriff and S. T. Hourigan of this county, and one sister, Mrs. Robert Gray of Danville. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at the Lebanon Baptist Church with the Rev. T. J. Porter officiating. The Marion Commandery NO. 24, Knight Templar, of which he was a member will conduct services at the church. Interment will be in Haysville Cemetery. |

| LEBANON ENTERPRISE 5/8/1980 A. J. HOURIGAN, 59 Albert Johnson "A. J." Hourigan, 59, of Route 1, Gravel Switch, died at 8:05am April 29 at Louisville V. A. Hospital. Mr. Hourigan was an employee of L & N Railroad. He was the son of the late Albert Hourigan. Survivors include: mother, Hazel Hourigan Lark of Lebanon; wife, Freda Wright Hourigan; two sons, Albert "Johnny" Hourigan of Gravel Switch and Stanley G. Hourigan of Bradfordsville; two daughters, Mrs. Marcella Straton of Harrodsburg and Mrs. Mary Anna Sullivan of Gravel Switch; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Lou Shewmaker and Mrs. Virgil Gray of Lebanon; nine grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at 1pm May 2 at Gravel Switch Baptist Church with burial in Haysville Cemetery. Rev. Paul Lambert officiated. Pallbearers were Ralp Wright, Larry Mattingly, Jesse Hourigan, Roy B. Hourigan, Ray Wren and Jim Worley. Bosley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. |
