Strawberry 4X4 Trail Guide
The Strawberry trail is a moderate off road trail that runs from near the town of Strawberry on highway 50 and on up to highway 88 near Caples lake. The trail runs approx. 13 miles and is mostly easy fire road with a couple of tough obstacles thrown in for good measure. Be advised that the trail is very skinny in some sections and those with full size rigs or nice paint jobs may want to consider this before heading on to the trail. The obstacles have the potential to do some serious damage as well, so if you have a new rig you may want to try Bassi Falls or another easy run first. The vehicles for this trip were an 86 Toyota truck and a Honda quad. My truck is bone stock except for the 33" tires and 3" body lift, and I'm still running open diffs and the stock IFS suspension up front. I also disconnected the sway bar and aired the tires down to about 10 lbs. for the trip. With that said, on to the details........

The First Obstacle.......
After about a mile or two the trail will turn from dirt to rocky and the rocks will start off small with the trail resembling a cobblestone street. As the trail progresses the rocks will get bigger and the trail will get steeper. At the top of the hill is the first obstacle, a 15 foot section of large rocks resembling a staircase. I had some help from a couple of jeepers who stacked the rocks for me so I could get over, and even with that it took a good half hour to get over. Those of you with lockers will have no problem getting over this. For you open diff guys like me, bring friends and start stacking....... After this, the trail turns back into a nice dirt fire road and continues on up the trail to Paint Rock.......

The "cobblestone" section. This is your first indication that the first obstacle is coming up. From here the trail gets skinnier and steeper intil you get to the first obstacle.
The "staircase". The picture isn't that great but the rocks are little ledges ranging from 6" to 18" in height. No problem for those with lockers, more fun for those without......

Due to a concern about increased traffic on the trail and the damage and litter that can come with it, the directions have been removed at the request of my fellow four wheelers. If you would like directions or someone to hit the trail with you, send me an e-mail at the link below. This is a big concern since certain trails were advertised in the past, and within a month or two the trail was gated and restricted. Sorry for the inconvenience.
