Answer to last weeks question? What element does an alpha decay produce?

An alpha decay occurs when an unstable radioactive nucleus releases some of it's electrical charges. Alpha decay releases a helium atom containing 2 nuetrons and 2 protons. Leaving the orignal atom (daughter nucleus) a new element that has 4 less mass and 2 less charges. I believe it is always two elements to the left on the periodic table.

ANSWER TO LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Where does wind come from?

Wind is the movement of air set up by the unequal heating of the earth's surface by the sun. The movement of air is in the form of a convection current. When air next to the earth is heated, it expands and becomes lighter. This warmer, lighter air is pushed up by the colder, heavier air that surrounds it. The colder, heavier air now is heated and becomes lighter, being pushed up in turn by more cold, heavy air that surrounds it. This process continues until there is a steady flow of air, called a convection current, with warm air rising and cold air falling. Cold air is heavier so it exerts a greater pressure than warm air. Winds are formed when cold air from high pressure areas move to low pressure areas where the air is warmer.
Why is the sky blue?
The sun's rays hit the Earth's atmosphere, where the light is scattered by nitrogen and oxygen molecules in the air. The blue wavelength of this light is affected more than the red and green wavelengths, causing the surrounding air to appear blue. At sunset, the sun's light passes farther through the atmosphere, deflecting and decreasing the blue in the air. Scattering by dust particles and pollution in the air causes the sunset to appear red.
