| Long live the new era of the VW!! | ||||||||||||||||||||
| I'm sure thier marketing scheme went something like that when they introduced the 68 beetle. This year sported huge changes, and in some peoples eyes, lost the appeal of its earlier counterparts. I am not one of those people. This was my first car that I actually cared about. It was purchased from a couple that loved it as much as I do now. It was in great shape, and still was when I began the resto. The reason I am restoring it is there were a few things wrong, and she was getting old. But we'll fix that right up. | ||||||||||||||||||||
| The desicion to restore this car was not an easy one to make. I have been around tools and was taught basic mechanics while growing up. I enjoy working on my motorcycles so I was comfterble with basic tasks. But honestly the thought of tearing my car apart terrified me. I wasnt even aware that sites like The Samba were around. After months of research and talking to folks, and quite a bit of procrastinating I began the long process. I think the hardest part so far is to figure out what to do next! My advise there is to pick something and just go with it. Its been over a year since I began this project. Looking like at least a year to go until it will be complete?. When I started this I knew very little about how a vw worked. Now I have more knowledge then I know what to do with! I by no means no everything. But Im way past where I started! | ||||||||||||||||||||
| Here are a few pics of my progress. My major projects as of now are removing and replacing the pans, and the reinstallation of the freshely narrowed beam. The drums need to go out for redrilling and a rust preventative needs to go over the new metal. | ||||||||||||||||||||
