Velvet Revolver - Electric Wonderland Show, Glasgow SECC, Scotland, 9/6/05, With The*Ga*Ga*s and Biffy Clyro. ------------------------------------ "You Glasgow people are something else" declared Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland during Velvet Revolver's one-off show at the Glasgow SECC this week. Yes, as are you, Mr. Weiland. This being the third time Velvet Revolver have played Glasgow within a year, you'd think they'd be sick of the place - quite the opposite. They are positively on fire tonight, and as into it as the approximately 8000 fans are. The wait for Velvet Revolver to appear on stage is almost as painful as it was in January. But the crowd erupt like a Pompeii mountain tonight when bassist Duff McKagan appears on stage in twilight, once again asking if we are ready. Yes, we are. And so, the band kick off with staple live opener 'Sucker Train Blues'. The sight and sound of the rest of the band (Scott Weiland, Dave Kushner, Matt Sorum and of course, Slash) dash onstage and launch into the first chorus. The noise from the crowd is incredible. And so, after the first song (during which I'd managed to lose my bottle of water in the moshpit), Scott dedicates this next one to the Glasgow girls: 'Do It For The Kids', from their album Contraband. Tonight's performance has an amazing setlist, boasting all of the Contraband album (except 'Loving The Alien' and 'Bodies') and a few Guns 'N' Roses and Stone Temple Pilots beauties. For the acoustic part of the set, they even throw in a beautiful cover of Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here'. The definite highlights were Guns 'N' Roses hit single 'It's So Easy', during which I made my way to the front to be within spitting distance of Slash for final song of the night, the mighty rock anthem 'Slither'. Both are rock singalong anthems, and boy do the people here tonight know it. Scott also tells us that no matter what the media throw at them, Velvet Revolver will show up as long as the fans show up, and I don't think there is any danger of no fans showing up after what we've witnessed tonight. And so, until next time, Velvet Revolver thank us, and march off-stage, heroes.
