History:
Manchester United was formed in 1902 after their predecessors, Newton Heath, went bankrupt.
However, it is usual to give the date of the club's foundation as 1878
when the dining room committee of the carriage and waggon works of the
Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Company
formed the Newton Heath L and YR Cricket and Football Club.
They won the Manchester Cup as early as 1866 and
as Newton Heath FC were admitted to the Second Division in 1892.
