Federal Member Warren Entsch will present the `Hot Firies` with
appreciation awards. Recognizing their contributions and efforts towards
Charities and community events throughout North Queensland.
The
presentation ceremony will take place on the evening of Saturday the First of
June at the `Relay for Life` Cancer extravaganza.
The “Hot
Firies” are a self-funding non profit group of professional firefighters who
give up their spare time to support and help raise money for Charities
throughout North Queensland. To date they have helped raise in excess of
$250,000 for various Charities and community events.
Over the
past two years the `Hot Firies` have supported the Leukemia Foundation, Cancer
Foundation, a Variety Bash entrant, the RSL Girl in a Million and several
Rotary clubs.
These foundations
have been supported from The tablelands right down to Mackay.
With direct
donations going to Cairns Base hospital, Yaps, the family of a Leukemia
patient, The Street Kids project and a young tableland entrant who had her
nomination money stolen. They have also given away two thousand Hot Firie
education books throughout Cairns.
Who are the
hot firies?
The
HotFiries is a concept, rather than a person...
A concept
that has tapped into a rather unusual market, helping Charity, fundraising
And
community... They deal in Firefighters calendars, `hot firie` children’s colour
in books and dancing.
They have
created a group of kind hearted individuals who believe they can `help those
who are helping others`. By providing entertainment and hands on with no cost
to the fund raisers.
Mr Entsch
believes that by publicly recognizing their work and efforts, he may encourage
others to support and aid the volunteers throughout our region. He commends the
spirit in which the `Hot Firies` and similarly charitable people embrace
helping others.
Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the
weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and
the finder of lost children.
