The presentation ceremony will take place at the ‘Relay for Life’ Cancer extravaganza.
“The Hot Firies are an amazing bunch of blokes who are always willing to help those who are helping others,” Mr Entsch said.
“They work tirelessly to aid charity groups raising money for very worthy causes, and their efforts certainly deserve the community’s support and gratitude.”
The Hot Firies are a self-funding non profit group of
professional fire fighters who give up their spare time to raise money for
charities throughout
To date they have helped raise in excess of $120,000 for organisations and events including the Leukemia Foundation, Cancer Foundation, a Variety Bash entrant, the RSL Girl in a Million and several Rotary clubs.
The Hot Firies have made direct donations to Cairns Base hospital, Yaps, the family of a Leukemia patient, The Street Kids project and a young Tableland charity entrant who had her nomination money stolen.
Founding Hot Firies member Dean Hawkins said there aren’t many organisations whose primary goal is to support groups and people who are helping others.
“It’s a rather unusual
concept created by a group of very kind-hearted guys,” Mr Hawkins said.
“Who’d have thought the
dancing skills of a bunch of fire fighters could do so much good?”
The Hot Firies also
raise money through their calendars and ‘Hot Firie’ children’s colouring books.
“The Hot Firies are a
great inspiration for other volunteers throughout the region,” Mr Entsch said.
“I encourage other charities and individuals to take on the team spirit these fire fighters have made their misson.”
