Hot Firies Go National

Cairns’ own Hot Firies will set Victorian stages alight next week when they head south to help a charity in distress.

Member for Leichhardt Warren Entsch, who is known to Hot Firies members as the troop’s Patron Saint, today wished the group well in their endeavour.

“The Hot Firies are about the most selfless bunch of blokes I’ve ever come across and I am proud as punch to see them extent their generosity to the Victorian-based Magic Moments Foundation,” Mr Entsch said.

The Hot Firies are a self-funding non-profit group of professional fire fighters who give up their spare time to raise money for charities throughout North Queensland by providing free entertainment, usually in the form of dance routines.

Having already helped North Queensland charities raise in excess of $120,000, the Hot Firies will stage four of their crowd-pleasing performances in Melbourne to promote sales of a Hot Firies calendar and raise money for the Magic Moments Foundation.

The funds from calendar sales and performances will be used to set up a motivational and mentoring camp for young people.

“It’s the first time the Hot Firies have been asked to help a charity from outside North Queensland but I am sure, once the word is out, it won’t be the last,” Mr Entsch said.

“I am equally sure that charities down south will appreciate the efforts of the Hot Firies as much as charities here do.”

The Hot Firies have already been invited to perform in New South Wales early next year.

To date the Hot Firies have raised money for organisations and events including the Leukemia Foundation, Cancer Foundation, a Variety Bash entrant, the RSL Girl in a Million and several Rotary clubs. The Hot Firies have made direct donations to Cairns Base hospital, Yaps, the family of a Leukemia patient, The Street Kids project and a young Tableland charity entrant who had her nomination money stolen.
