GREY ELVES

The Silvanesti, High or 'grey' elves, consider themselves to be the "purest" elves.  In Middle Earth, the Sindar are of this type, fair of face and light-skinned. They are famous linguists and shipwrights. They have an undying love for the sea and sea-emblems appear upon their heraldry and decorative motifs. Like all elves, they are slighter than most humans, appearing to be more "fragile". They enjoy natural beauty and are immortal and it is their birthright to leave Middle Earth to live in peace in Valinor (Home of the gods and found beyond the Sundering Sea, no mortal may go there) Many have grown weary of Middle Earth and already taken this choice to leave for Valinor never to return. The few that remain still believe Middle Earth can be a home for them even in the face of rising numbers of men and an ongoing threat from the dark powers.

Grey elves, like wood elves, possess a high level of dexterity as well as infravisionthe ability to see infrared outlines of creatures in the dark. They have established themselves in the Anduin Vale in a new realm known as Lothlorian. It is a major Woodland realm and the largest Grey Elf community in Middle Earth. Galadriel and Celeborn are the Leaders of Grey Elves in Middle Earth. They are the most isolationist of the Elven peoples and few outsiders have even lived among them

Noldor: These are the tallest of the Elves who came to Middle-earth. They are usually dark-eyed and dark-haired. They are the most gifted of all the Eldar in the use of magic and craft. They most learned, lordly and courageous of all the elves, even though there are few of them left on Middle Earth, they remain a major force. Led by their king, Gil Galad, he is also treated as the High King of all Elven peoples on Middle Earth. The Noldor are based in Gil Galads Kingdom of Lindon and in the Hidden Valley of Imladris.

One of the mightiest lords in Middle-earth Elrond is master of the last homely house at Rivendell. He known as the half-elven, for he is descended from both Elves and Men. His lineage is one Of the most illustrious in all Middle-earth. He is the direct descendent through Elwing, his mother, of Beren and Luthien, and through them of Elwe (Thingol). His father was Earendil the mariner of the house of Hador. Elrond is the bearer of one of the three great Elven rings, Vilya the ring of air, and he is a master of much secret knowledge and ancient lore. His hospitality gave a welcome rest to Thorin and Co., during their great journey to the Lonely mountain, and later at the outset of the war of the ring he summoned a great council to meet at Rivendell, to determine what courses should be taken to meet the growing threat of Mordor.
