A period of heavy rain and thunderstorms from 4-6pm .64" fell. Brief periods of sun after 6pm. 6: A few light showers overnight with fog, clearing by 9am and becoming mostly sunny. 7: Clear early, then partly cloudy and warm. 8: Mostly sunny and hot high 92 F with light breezes from W. 9: Sunny and hot. 10: Cloudy during the morning, becoming sunny and hot this afternoon high 93 F. 11: Mostly cloudy and not as hot. Wind gusts to 20 mph and temperature dropped 12 degrees from 79 to 67, .50" rain fell. Partly cloudy after 6pm. 25: Partly cloudy, becoming cloudy by early evening. Strong thunderstorm between 6-7pm dropped heavy rain, intense frequent lightning, hail and gusty W winds .85" rain fell within the hour. Several reports of large hail and wind damage, especially in the Cumberland area. 26: Mountain fog this morning. Partly cloudy with thunderstorms in the area again this evening from 4-6pm .19" fell with most of the heavy rains passing to the south & east. 27: Morning fog again. Became partly sunny, with some thunder and light rain around 4pm. 28: Cloudy early, then variable clouds. Thunder around 5pm but only .01" rain. Thunderstorms inched this way from the south late this evening with lots of lightning but no rain. 29: Thunderstorms shortly after midnight with a brief heavy downpour around 1am .27" fell. The storms stalled just to the south & east where tremendous amounts of rain fell. Parts of the county had 3+ inches of rain and flash flooding. Mix of sun and clouds during the day. 30: Cloudy during the morning, becoming mostly clear this afternoon. 31: Early morning fog cleared by 9am. Became mostly sunny and very warm high 89 F. MONTHLY SUMMARY This was a relatively typical July with close to normal temperatures and precipitation. The Coolest temperatures of the month occurred within the first week, and were followed by the warmest temperatures during the second week. Otherwise, there was little fluctuation in temperature. A few strong thunderstorms affected the area, but nothing dramatic like in June. Some nearby areas, especially south & east, had substantially heavier rain totals this month.
