More lightning late this evening from storms to the south & east. No rain fell here. 3rd: Still quite hot, not quite as humid. High 94F, heat indeces near 100. 4th: Another scorcher, high 97F, heat indeces around 105. Quite a light show this evening from all the fireworks and storms to the NW which dissipated before arriving, a bit of thunder. 7th: An unusual weather day as smoke from Canadian forest fires obscures the sun in what would have been a perfectly clear sunny day. 9th: A very HHH day. Thunderstorm 5-6pm provided some relief, .24" rain fell. 10th: Some drizzle overnight, trace. A train of thunderstorms went just to the south and west of the area and dropped very heavy rains in parts of WV with over 3" falling in some areas. 12th: A record cold low of 49F, a sunny beautiful day. FINALLY A SOAKING RAIN 13th: Steady rains went barely south of the area all day and finally began late this evening around 11pm .07" fell by midnight... 14th: Steady soaking rains overnight with another .98" falling before ending around 8am. Cool and mostly cloudy all day. 18th: A VERY hazy, humid day. Thunderstorm 2:30-3pm with heavy rain .46" in 15 minutes. Foggy this evening and more rain 10:30-midnight. Total rain .51". 19th: AM fog, another HHH day. Heavy thunderstorms built up just to the south and east this afternoon 3-6pm with no rain at this station except .02" from storms that brushed by to the S & SW about 6:45pm. 23rd: HHH. Increasing PM clouds with storms all around this station just .01" rain. Hampshire Co. WV to the SE got very heavy rains with flash flood warnings in that area. 25th: Steady rains most of the day with moderate rain 8-10am. Another shower 11pm-midnight, total rain .56" today. 26th: Thunderstorm around 4:30am and more showers throughout morning, mostly light. More storm cells merged just to the north around 5pm then dissipated as they moved through with another .10" rain. Total .44" rain. 27th: Thunderstorm around 4:15am with another shower about 6am, .22" fell. Partial sunshine during the day, more storms missed to the S and W later this afternoon. 29th: A rather hot high of 94F, hazy and humid as well with heat advisories in effect. 31st: Another HHH day, some lightning to the north late this evening. JULY SUMMARY July 2002 was much like June, a lot of hot humid days, with a few cooler, wet days thrown in. There were 13 days in the 90s. Precipitation measured 3.05" but could have been a lot higher, as extremely heavy rain and thunderstorms repeatedly tracked just south of the area all month long. Parts of the panhandle of WV within 50 miles of this station got 8-10 inches of rain in July.
