Sunny AM and increasing high clouds PM. 2: Period of rain 4-6am .13" fell. Remainded cloudy all day with calm wind. WARM! 3. Drizzle overnight. An unusually warm Janurary day high 70F. Strong WSW breezes 15-25mph this afternoon. 4: Intermittant rain showers on and off all day with patchy fog. Total .40" rain fell. 5: Some rain this morning gradually tapered off another .33" fell. Snow showers by 10pm. WINTER RETURNS 6: Few snow showers overnight just 0.3" fell. Clearing skies and falling temperatures all day. Breezy at times. 7: A clear blustery day & night high only 24F with occasional WNW wind gusts. 10-11: Very cold low 7F both days 12: Milder high 44F. Some gusty winds 20-30 mph. LIGHT SNOW 14: Became cloudy with some light snow showers beginning by late afternoon. Light snow during the evening about 0.5" by midnight. 15: Light snow overnight tapered to a few snow showers and flurries during the morning hours. Another 1.5" fell. Event total 2.0" Temperatures dropped throughout the day with gusty WNW winds and very cold wind chills. 16: Cold low 7F 17: Cold with light snow on & off through the afternoon & evening 2.0" fell by midnight. 18: Period of rain & freezing rain early this morning 6-8am tapered to drizzle. Total melted precip .37" 20: Very cold low 4F. Mostly clear, chilly & blustery all day with WNW winds gusting to 30 mph. SNOWY 23: Snow began late this evening with about 0.5" accumulation by midnight with moderate snow falling... 24: Steady light to moderate snows overnight through mid-morning. Tapered to flurries & ended by 11:30am. Another 3.5" fell for a storm total of 4.0". Snow was very dry & powdery only melting down to .14" water equivalent. 25: Very cold low 0 F this morning. Remained cloudy & cold. Snow began this evening about 6:30pm and was moderate to heavy at times throughout the evening. Mixed with ice pellets by late evening, total 4.5" fell by midnight. 26: Snow gradually tapered to flurries and snow showers overnight and through the morning. Another 1.5" fell. Low clouds & light sleet pellets fell on & off throughout the day. 0.26" additional melted precip. 27: Overcast & cold. Snow began early this afternoon and was heavy at times. Snow tapered to flurries during the evening. Another 5.5" fell today with close to 15 inches on the ground by midnight. Melted to 0.67" precip. 28: Light snow & flurries overnight just about 0.5" additional accumulation. Gusty winds at times. 29: Clear early with increasing clouds by late afternoon. Gusty WNW winds to 30 mph. Light snow during the evening but no accumulation. 30: Light snow overnight about 0.5" accumulation. Flurries & snow showers throughout the day. Variables clouds & quite windy with WNW winds gusting 30+ mph. 31: Mostly sunny but cold and continued windy causing blowing & drifting snow. SUMMARY: Mother Nature had us all fooled after a rather spring-like start to the New Year. Winter soon took grip of the region and after the first week, January was cold, windy & snowy. Almost no snow fell the first 13 days, but three consecutive systems from the 23rd-28th dropped a combined 16 inches, boosting the monthly total to 21.3 inches.
