If……

In this heat I smolder away bit by bit
And the night passes by
And I simply wait.....
In the silence and solitude
The rustling leaves cause me to look about
Only it is in vain
As I hope they may signal your arrival....
If I were to wish upon one of the stars
That glances down upon my earnest face
And perhaps laughs at my searching eyes
Would you call my name?
If I were to lay my forehead down in prayer
And promise to not end the zikr
Until I raise my head to find you before me,
Then you would come to me?
If I were to lay down to sleep,
Your laughter echoing in my soul like a lullaby
To lead me to the land of dreams
Where I hold you close never to let go
Would I wake and find you by my side?

All I want is you but it is you I cannot find.
