| Marc Diglio from XYZ happens to be one of my current favourite Axe-Slingers right now, So I decided this site wouldn't be complete without some insight into his killer guitar tone. I found some info on his sound in the XYZ tab book for the self titled debut cd which was produced by Don Dokken, who is also one of my heroes. So here we go! On the disc he relied on his red '81 Charvel guitar with maple fingerboard, Floyd Rose tremolo bridge, and Paul Reed Smith (PRS) pickup for the majority of the rhythm guitar work. For solos, he added the Charvel and alternated that sound with a Gibitz guitar (by Billy Gibitz of Texas) also equipped with a Floyd Rose and a Seymour Duncan JB (Jeff Beck) pickup. A stock Fender Stratocaster with EMG SA pickups is heard on "Follow The Night" and "After The Rain." A number of acoustics were used: A Yamaha steel string, a Gibson steel string, as well as one in a country inspired "High Strung" tuning (in this case, the low strings E, A and D are substituted with a second set of high E, B and G strings and tuned up an octave-as if they were still in normal tuning). He plugged into an old 1969 Marshall amp head (modified by Jose Arredondo of Van Halen fame) and a Boss OD-1 overdrive distortion pedal for four of the solos: "Inside Out," "Take What You Can," "What Keeps Me Loving You," and "Come On N' Love Me." For the rest, Marc added a Roland GP-8 multi-effects processor (for extra distortion/overdrive, some EQ and light phasing) and sent that signal to a stock Marshall 100 watt head (set clean) for power. A vintage Marshall cabinet with 25-watt Celestion speakers delivered the final sound. This look into the sound of Marc Diglio was borrowed from Wolf Marshall, who interviewed Marc and got the scoop for the tab book, so thanks to Wolf for the look into his sound. The pics of Marc and XYZ were borrowed from www.XYZMusic.com, so thanks to them for the pics. Coming soon will be possibly some lessons from the book also, so stay tuned. -The Dungeon Webmaster |
