What I didn't Do

Justin raced down the stairs and into the kitchen where Jade was cooking breakfast. He grabbed a couple pieces of bacon off a plate on the counter, kissed Jade on the cheek and raced out the front door without a word said. Jade shook her head from side to side and a single tear started to stream down her face.

"Yeah, I love you too Justin Timberlake." She mumbled to herself.

Just then, the phone rang, which was arm length away from her. She picked it up and pressed 'Talk"

"Hello?"

"Jade! Hey girl! I haven't heard from you in a week! Is everything going good?" Jade smiled and sighed.

"Emma, I know you are my sister and all, but just because I don't call in a week doesn't mean that I'm not doing good!"

"Yeah, yeah, ok, ok... so how's Ju?"

"He's... busy..."

"Well, yeah, what do you expect? He is one of the hottest celebrities in the world! Well, that is, besides Tom Cruise!"

They shared a small laugh together and it was quiet for a couple of seconds.

"So, have ya'll been going anywhere special lately... if you know what I mean?"

Jade was silent for a couple of minutes. She really didn't want to talk about that. It made her sad to think that she and Justin weren't spending enough time with each other like they should be.

"Jade? Sweetie? You there?"

"Huh? Oh, yeah... everything's going great with Ju."

"That's good to hear. Listen, I have to go to town today, so I am going to have to let you go. Talk to you later Jade!"

"Yeah, you too!"

They hung up and Jade set the phone down on the counter. She picked up the last piece of bacon Justin had left for her and shoved it in her mouth. She walked to the refrigerator and opened it. She scanned it for a couple of seconds and then reached in to grab the orange juice. She closed the door and uncsrewed the lid. Just as she was about to gulp it down, the phone rang again. She walked over to the phone, pressed 'Talk', and lifted it to her ear.

"Hello?"

"Jade!"

"Hey, how's it going Becky?"

"Good! I am just really bored! Want to go to the mall with me today?"

"Sure, I'll be over in an hour!"

"Ok, Jade! Talk you to later girl!"

"Bye Beck!"

They hung up and Jade took a deep breath. At least she was going somewhere where she could take her mind off Justin.

~*~*~

Jade threw the overflowing shopping bags on the floor and took her jacket off. She hung it on the rack behind the front door and sighed. It felt good to be home. She didn't bother moving the bags that were placed in front of the door. She walked to the living room and plopped down on the couch. She closed her eyes and started to doze off. Just then, she heard a door slam upstiars that startled her. She stood up and faced the stairs wher justin was running down. She watched him without saying a word. He saw her just as he made it to the first floor and smiled. He started walking very fast to the front door and didn't pay attention to where he was going.

"Jade, I have to go to a mandatory meeting right now with Johnny and the other guys and-- WOAH!" He didn't see the bags in front of the door and he had tripped over them, but remained on his feet. He shook himself off and opened the front door. He raced outside to his car, without shutting the door. Jade heard his car's tires screech down the street.

"I can't live like this anymore!" Jade stormed to the kitchen and pulled out a pencil and a sheet of paper out of a drawer and sat down at the kitchen table. She knew exactly what she was going to write to him. Anger filled her eyes as she started to write down each word. Right in the middle of it, she started crying her heart out... she couldn't believe that she wasted all those years on him.

~*~*~

Justin pulled into the drive and noticed that Jade's car was gone. He figured that she went to the store, so he didn't think too much of it. He parked his car, turnied it off, and got out. He noticed skid marks on te driveway right where Jade's car is usually parked... and they were never there before. He started to get scared. He raced up the sidewalk and barged into the house, stumbling over the bags once more.

"Jade! Jade! Where are you? Jade! It's me! Oh God!"

He ran to the kitchen where he found a note that was folded in half soaked by tears. He picked it up and opened it.

Dear Mr. Justin Timberlake,

You're probably wondering where I am right now, but don't worry about me because I am never coming back. I don't even know why I waited this long. I was so stupid to believe that soon, you would always be with me, to hold me, to tell me everything was going to all right, but no. I was dead wrong and blind. For the past three years now, I kept telling myself that you still loved me, even though you never showed it. Why? I don't know... maybe you can answer that. Now, I realized that I missed out on a lot of oppurtunities in life because I truly believed that you would change. How could I have been so ignorant? How I stayed awake for hours every single night wondering if you were ever going to treat me the way you used to before you joined *NSYNC. Good bye Mr. Justin Timberlake. You will never see me again.

Sincerely,

Jade Audrey Newton

P.S. I hope you are finally getting the picuture.

"Oh my God! No! NO! I didnt mean to! Jade! No!" Justin saw the phone on the counter and picked it up. He dialed JC's number and placed the phone against his ear.

"Hello?"

"JC get over here now!"

And with that, he turned the phone off and grabbed the letter. He marched into the living room and sat down on the couch, not taking his eyes off the letter. Minutes later,l JC barged in through the door, stumbling over the bags. He rushed over to Justin who was still on the couch.

"J, man? What's wrong?"

Justin didn't say anything. All he did was hand him the letter and JC took it from him with a questioning look on his face. He opened it and read it. After he finished, he set it down on the coffee table and stared hard at Justin.

"J, man... what did you do?"

"It isn't what I did do... it is what I didn't do." He stared at JC as a tear started to stream down his face.

"What do you mean?"

"Josh, it is not that difficult! Think of how busy we have been for the past couple of months! I was never there for her and it showed! It's all my fault and now I am never going to see her again! It's all my fault!"

Tears started pouring out of his sad eyes when he realized what he had just said was the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Because of his foolish choices, he lost the only thing the he loved, even though he never showed it.

The End!
