Chapter One

"Justin, wait for me." Justine whined as Justin ran across the yard.

"I thought you liked to run." Justin told her as he stopped and waited for her to catch up.

"I do but not now. Plus I only like to run when I'm in the lead." She told him as she raced in front of him to the backdoor.

"Hey that's not fair. I waited for you and then you went and tricked me." Justin whined as he gave her the all so famous puppy dog face.

"J, you know that doesn't work on me and plus your only mad at yourself because you were tricked by a girl." Justine said back as they sat down at the kitchen table. Lynn walked in on the two arguing on who would have won if they started at the same time.

"Would you two like some lunch now?" Lynn asked.

"Aunt Lynn can you make peanut butter and jelly, please?" Justine asked politely.

"Yes, sweetie. Justin, do you want the same before you have to go to tape the show?" Lynn asked.

"Sure mom." Justin said with a grin. As Lynn prepared lunch the two were busy talking about how cool it was that Justin was on TV.

"OK, you two have to eat quick because we have to pick up Britney on the way to the studio." Lynn said before exiting the kitchen.

"Can I come today Justin?" Justine asked him.

"Yeah, why wouldn't you want to?" Justin asked with his mouth full of his sandwich.

"Ewwwww! Justin, close your mouth!" Justine said laughing at her friend. "Does Britney hate me?" Justine asked seriously.

"No, I don't think so." Justin told her as he finished up his sandwich. "I'll be right back." He said as he ran upstairs.

Justine wasn't sure if she wanted to go the studio anymore. She never really liked Britney. She didn't know why but they never did get along. She always thought Justin liked her more because they were on MMC together. She also was afraid that she was going to steal her best friend away from her. Over the past couple of weeks Britney was brought into the picture more often then usual. But she would never let Justin know what she thought of Britney because she knew she had to get used to having to share him with other people.

"Justine? J? Hello? Jus?" Justin asked waving a hand in front of her face.

"What? I'm sorry, what did you need?" Justine asked from the couch in Justin's new house.

"You were really deep in thought. Is there something you need to tell me? You know you can tell me anything." Justin gave her his fatherly look.

"I know. I was just thinking of that time when we were arguing over who runs faster. We all know that I can whoop your ass now, though." Justine said laying her head on his shoulder.

"I remember that we were like, what, 12 at the time?" Justin asked playing with her curly hair.

"Yeah you were 12 and I was 11. So what did you need?" Justine asked.

"Oh yeah the guys just called and we're supposed to meet them at the Jive house in like fifteen minutes." Justin said getting off the couch.

"Justin, carry me." Justine said holding out her arms and pouting.

"You have legs, you can walk." Justin said laughing at her.

"If your were really my best friend then you would carry me." Justine said back.

"Fine, but don't think I'll do this all the time now." Justin told her and he threw her over his shoulder. As they neared his car, he put her down and opened her door for her.

"Thanks J." She said as she scruffed his hair and got into the car.

Justine had hazel eyes and brown shoulder length curly hair. She and Justin had been best friends since they were little.

As Justin climbed in the drivers seat, she put in a CD.

"What are we going to listen to this time?" Justin asked.

"You'll see." Justine said flipping to her favorite song.

"Not this. We listen to this all the time. I mean I could handle listening to us but country? What are you trying to do, make this look like Lance rides with this much style?" Justin whined.

"Hey we have to support her and its not like she's a bad country artist. Its Meredith! Plus she's super sweet unlike some stars I know." Justine said looking at him.

"But we listened to this last time we were in the car." Justin continued to whine. Justine just ignored him. She figured out a long time ago that the only way to shut him up was to ignore him.

"So who's going to be there?" Justine asked.

"Well the guys, Britney, Kristin, and Britt." Justin told her.

"Oh." Justine said as she stared out the window. The rest of the ride was pretty quiet.

She didn't want Britney to be there. Ever since they went public she ALWAYS had to be by him. But she was glad because at least she would be able to rip on her with her two best friends. Britt, who was Nsyncs' stylist since the beginning, was great. She and Justine clicked right away. Kristin was Lance's best friend. She was sweet and a little saner then Justine and Brittany were.

Justin decided to not break Justine from her thoughts. It was weird for her not to be singing along with the CD or blabbing about school, but he knew she would tell him if something was bothering her.

Justine came out of her trance as Justin walked to the door. She quickly got out of the car and ran to catch up to him.

"I can't wait to see Kris and Britt! I haven't seen them for a long time." Justine said as they opened the door.

"You just saw them this morning." Justin said to her as they walked into the big room.

"I know." Justine said but was cut short by a delighted scream from someone jumping on Justin after his entrance. Justine walked past them and into the living room.

"M-SIPPI BOY!!!!" Justine screamed as she ran into the living room.

"Does she always have to yell like that?" Britney said to Justin, still on top of him. She was getting sick of Justine always being around but she knew they were drifting apart and weren't as close as they used to be.

"JUSTINE!!! Where's J-dawg? Did you see silicon Spears?" Brittany asked as she ran to hug her friend.

"Do you have to scream like that, its not like she's not right in front of you." Britney said to her.

"OK BRITNEY. THANKS FOR THE ADVICE, MAYBE NEXT TIME I'LL STICK IT UP MY ASS!" Brittany screamed in her face.

"How rude! Justin tell her to stop. Why did you guys ever hire her?" Britney said into Justin's ear but it was loud enough for everyone to hear.

"Britney she's cool and she knows what she's doing," Justin replied.

"OK, were gonna take a poll. Who all HATES Britney?" Justine said out loud. Everyone looked at her with big eyes as her arm went straight up and Brittany's shortly followed. Justin couldn't believe that she had just said that. The rest of the guys arms were scratching their heads in agreement but still trying to be nice around her. Kristin's hand was the same as the guys.

"Look at that: 7 to 2." Justine said. "Looks like you should leave. Bye, bye, bye." Justine sang to Britney.

"Yes! That's the kind of spunk I always knew you had inside of you!" Brittany told her. Justine knew she had said it out loud but she was sick of her constantly parading around like she was some prize.

"I need some fresh air." Justine said as she walked out the back door to the lake in the back. She walked out onto the pier and sat at the edge with her feet in the water. JC walked up behind her and sat down next to her at the edge.

"What's the matter Just?" JC asked.

"I don't know. I hate her so much. I feel like she's taking my best friend away." Justine said as tears formed in her eyes.

"Im sure J would not let you get away. You two have been friends since your were little." JC said as he wiped a tear away from her cheek. He was like a big brother to her. He always protected her and made sure she was OK. All of a sudden they heard footsteps behind them. Justine became frightened hoping that it wouldnt be a pissed off Justin.
