Mom,

I just thought I'd write and give you some news. First things first... I'm not coming home for Christmas this year. Now I'll wait for the screaming to stop before I write anything else... Feel better? Hope so. Now, I DO have a good reason why I'm staying here this year. Several, in fact, so sit down and keep reading, and really THINK about what I'm telling you. *********************************************

"Problems, beloved?"

Ky leaned back into Quintus' touch, sighing as he rubbed her shoulders.

"Nothing I can't handle, Quintus. Just telling someone something they don't want to hear." *********************************************

I know I'll miss all the normal parties and such by staying here, Mom, so there's no need to email me in a tizzy. I haven't had a good time at those parties since I was thirteen. Besides, we have a get together planned here on campus. I know, I know, you hate this place, and you hate me here even more, but I'm past the point of being hurt by that. *********************************************

"Quintus, stop reading over my shoulder."

Quintus stilled his hands momentarily, silent, then he resumed stroking his Mistress' shoulders.

"Are you, truly?"

"Am I what, Quintus?"

"Past the point of being hurt?"

Ky smiled slightly, moving her hand to cover Quintus'.

"Yep, as long as I have my family here."

Quintus bent low and kissed Ky's hair.

"I know one person that will always be by your side, if you wish it." *********************************************

I have a new life here, Mom. One full of life and love. The love of friends, close enough to be considered sisters, (God knows we argue enough to be) and the best mentor I could wish for. I have a place here at HSU, you know. A job... well, two really. I have a staff position that I'm proud of, you know. Rseident Advisor. Sounds nice, huh? And there's this man, but I think you probably remember him for your last visit. Oh, BTW... CALL me next time before you pop in, please. I think you traumatized him. *********************************************

"Does your mother know about me, as well?"

"Uh... no. I can't tell her."

"Why not?"

::sigh:: "She wouldn't understand, Quintus. She just wouldn't understand..." *********************************************

Life here is good, so don't worry about that. The staff here is great, and the benefits of campus life are good for me. I have a large group of friends, a man that I adore, and I think he cares for me as well. My boss is wonderful, and I can truly say that I have the best roomie in the world. She's considerate, she doesn't leave her EA, er... stuff laying around, and she's a pretty good cook, as long as she doesn't bake cookies. They always seem to turn out... oddly shaped. ********************************************

"Oddly shaped? How so?"

::snicker:: "You'll have to ask her about that one."

Nosy man that he was, Quintus detached his hands from Ky's neck and walked over to Jen's door.

"Lady Jen? I need to ask you a question about your baking habits."

Ky laughed at the obscene muttering aimed at her from her roommate. ********************************************

Well, Mom... Time flies by, as usual. I have to be at the office in ten minutes, and then to class after that. I should have some free time on Christmas Day, so I'll have a chance to call you then. Until then, all my love to Dad and the ugly mutt. (Kidding, Sissy... love you too, mutt)

Hugs and all that stuff, Ky
