President's Message Viktoria Serafin
This is the last time I shall address you as your President. I thank you for trusting me with this job. A new President will be elected at the Picnic and Hosta Sitter Plant Sale in September at Glenbrook Farm. We look forward to hosting the picnic again. The hostas have had two years to grow (not without setbacks) since the last picnic here. There are now nearly 600 varieties planted in the gardens. Late frosts in May wreaked havoc on the ones emerging early, and just last week hail, larger than we have ever seen, shattered much foliage. Nevertheless, we trust that you will find much to please the eye.
While the Picnic is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m., if you are bringing Hosta Sitter plants or donated plants, please arrive any time after noon in order that those in charge of the sale will have time to label, price and organize the plants. Plants other than hostas are also very desirable. Dig and pot them up as soon as possible so that they have time to recover before the Picnic. Plants in good condition bring better prices, and this event is, besides providing members with new plants, intended to raise funds to support speakers and programs, so we all benefit.
Bring a dish to pass and your own eating utensils and plates. We have extra lawn chairs, but perhaps not enough for everyone, so it would be helpful if some people bring their own. |
