The Lions of March have really put a damper on thoughts of spring. That white stuff just doesnt want to leave! I know that I saw some green sprouts several days ago was it a dream wishful thinking - or hallucination.
The spring garden shows are a real spirit lifter. The Philadelphia show (my first time) had wonderful display gardens and plants. The displays at HVCC were also great - especially the Harry Potter garden. They create over a weekend what I am still trying to develop -- a nice patch of Hosta and assorted companion plants.
Your Board has put together another exciting and event packed year: In APRIL, Mike Shadrack will present A Wander Through English Gardens. Our meeting will be at the East Greenbush Library -- 1:00PM. MAYS plant sale will offer exciting new Hosta. Save those plant dollars for this sale you will be well pleased at the diversity - and just think, you can regale your friends and neighbors with Hosta found no where else but in your garden. The Hosta Show in JUNE will arrive quickly. Pamper your special Hosta now as they emerge, so your leaves can present a spectacular display and compete for best in class and perhaps even the show. I know that you all have at least one Hosta you like to show off. SMILE!! Better still, volunteer for a committee and become even more involved. Our show two years ago was a huge success with over 200 leaves entered. Your participation will make this years show even better. I am asking every member to enter at least one leaf. How did you become interested in planting, growing, and enjoying Hosta? I am sure each of us has a story to tell. Well, JULYS Hosta Exchange offers the members a chance to relate these stories and rekindle the excitement by exchanging a division of their favorite Hosta with another member. Consider the type of Hosta you would like to receive share this same caliber of Hosta with another member. AUGUST will usher in our first annual Hosta sale at Faddegons. Your club needs you to divide some of your Hosta as they emerge in the spring. Pot them up and bring these divisions to Bobbi Crains on May 21st. The club has pots available for you to do this potting, or just bring your division to Bobbis and we will pot them there. We are hoping that this endeavor will be successful and provide funds to do even more for the membership. As always, SEPTEMBER heralds the culmination of our activity cycle. This year will be even more exciting because it is an election year. YES, a new board needs to be selected. I am hopeful that you, the members, will step forward to fill board and committee vacancies. Consider how you could best serve the club. New ideas and fresh approaches are what sustain the clubs momentum and growth. OK, you can see that we have a full and exciting year. I hope I have whet your appetite to attend meetings and become involved. In that vein, I would like to thank the people who do come forward --- bringing the treats to share at the meetings, lending a helping hand passing out raffle and door prize tickets, helping to set up and take down at meetings and events, bringing door prizes, and volunteering in so many ways. Special thanks to the members who attend the meetings -- without you there would be no club. Thanks!!! You are all appreciated and make our club vibrant, strong, and successful.
So, bring a friend or two to hear Mike Shadracks presentation. They wont be disappointed! See you there. |
