Whitworth 11 2 HSM Trojans      League       Saturday 10th September 2005
Trojans opening game of the season was certainly a baptism of fire. After the league reorganisation, Trojans found themselves in Section A, and so we always knew we would come up against some tough opposition. Nothing had prepared us for this game though.

During the opening 10 minutes Trojans held their own, and Alex M, who was partnering Alex up front, was unlucky not to score when Jack sent a terrific cross into the box. How different the outcome might have been, had Trojans scored the opening goal.

At the other end of the field, Alix D made a couple of good saves, and Josh cleared off the line. That goal line clearance however, was the end of Trojans run of luck. On 13 minutes, Whitworth opened their account, and then made it 2-0 a minute later, after an unlucky mis-kick. By half time, Trojans were 4-0 down.

Trojans were really up against it in the second half, as Whitworth continued to break through the defence, and score several more times.  The terrible weather conditions were not helped by the superior passing and fitness of the Whitworth team. Trojans best scoring chance came when they were awarded an indirect free kick, which was cleared off the line. On 63 minutes, Trojans eventually scored when Alex M lobbed the Whitworth keeper, and then George scored again within a minute. Whitworth then scored twice more, to make the final score 11-2.

This was Trojans worst ever defeat and we were completely outclassed and outplayed, although to be fair, had we been playing in the same section as last season, Whitworth would have been a section above us. Lessons can be learnt however. Our fitness was called into question, and this definitely needs to be improved upon, as we will come up against teams of this standard many times this season.

Quote of the Day Right lads, we know were not going to win the league! Chris, in the after game team talk..
HSM Trojans 2 13 Seedfield        League        Saturday 17th September 2005

After last weeks result, todays game was always going to be difficult. Quite how difficult soon became apparent when Seedfield took the lead after only 35 seconds, and then made it 3-0 by scoring 2 goals in quick succession. Both these goals however were the result of dubious decisions by the referee. The first goal was clearly offside, as indicated by the linesman furious flag waving, and the second goal came after a blatant handball which the referee also chose to ignore.

The onslaught continued, and by 16 minutes, Trojans were already 6-0 down, although this would have been 7-0, had Alix not made a fantastic goal line clearance with his head! The lads heads were down, and as we have often seen in the past, they began to argue amongst themselves. Trojans finally managed to break through the Seedfield defence, and George found himself facing the Seedfield keeper. He calmly controlled the ball, and shpt past the keeper, to score, on 20 minutes. Three minutes later however, Seedfield scored their seventh, and then scored again a minute later. Four minutes later, they scored yet again, although Curtis did manage to get a hand to the ball, and it hit the post. Five minutes before half time, Jordan made a superb pass to Jack, and scored a fantastic goal. Seedfield then went on to score twice more in the last few minutes.

Despite the scoreline, the half time team talk was positive. They were told to forget the score, and to just go out and play some good football. We knew we had made mistakes, and the lads went out for the second half in a much more determined frame of mind. The second half was a great 35 minutes for the Trojans. They were much more in control, and defended well. One important factor was that now, Trojans were tackling and winning the majority of those tackles. The game was a much more physical in this half, and Seedfield lost their keeper to a knee injury early on. They continued to fire shot after shot at the Trojans goal, and scored twice more, although many of these shots were off target. It was whilst Curtis was trying to save one of these shots that he suffered a suspected broken wrist, and had to be replaced by Alix. Trojans managed to keep Seedfield out for the remainder of the half, and the final score was 13-2.

Despite the heavy defeat, Trojans should be proud of their second half performance. They tackled well, won nearly every ball, they were fantastic when going up for aerial balls one parent commented that they had seen more headers in this game, than in the whole of last season! They also refused to give up as they could so easily have done starting the second half 11-2 down, and showed superb team spirit.

Well done lads!
