| HSM Trojans 2-5 Walshaw Sports A League Saturday 19th February 2005
This match promised to be as entertaining as the return fixture was a fortnight before. Walshaw made the early running and were 1-0 up after only 2 minutes. Trojans went on the attack immediately, and were rewarded with a corner. Jordan fired the ball superbly into the area, but unfortunately, there was no one there to connect. Walsaw then went 2-0 on 5 minutes, with a good effort which lobbed the keeper. Walshaw were eager for another goal, but Trojans defended well and managed to keep them at bay. At the other end of the field, Jordan was unlucky not to score when his shot went just wide. This was end to end stuff, as within a minute, Alix was called upon to make the first of a number of great saves, and Robert prevented another Walshaw goal with a clearance off the line. After 18 minutes, Trojans perseverance paid off when Mark scored. He reacted quickly when the initial shot was saved by the keeper, and calmly slotted the ball in. Walshaw continued to attack, but excellent defending and another fine save from Alix kept them out. The second half saw Trojans looking very strong in the opening few minutes, but unfortunately Walshaw scored again on 37 minutes and then again 2 minutes later. This fourth goal caught all the defence out. Despite the score line, Trojans had moments of fantastic football, with Jack and Alex M who was now up front playing particularly well together. The game had slowed down by now, and on 51 minutes Jack picked up a ball just outside the area, took the ball inside, and fired at the keeper, who saved. Fortunately, Alex M was right there to put the ball in the net. Trojans, now aware that time was running out, went all out for those much needed 2 goals. There were 2 near misses, both of which went only just wide of the post. Walshaw put the game beyond all doubt on 57 minutes and scored again. Trojans refused to give up, but with almost the final kick of the game, Jordans shot was just wide. A very entertaining game played in good spirit, enjoyed by both sets of supporters. Another game where we could, and should have scored more goals, but a great team effort nevertheless. Man of the Match Alix Once again, many fine saves. | Ringley Park 6 3 HSM Trojans League Saturday 26th February 2005
This fixture was always going to be a tough one, as Ringley were the clear league leaders, and had only lost 1 game all season. However, that loss was to us, so we knew we could overcome them. Trojans dominated much of the first half, and were unlucky not to score in the opening minute, when Jordans free kick went just over the bar. They did find the net after 5 minutes, when Alex B put the ball in the net from a superb cross from the right his first Trojans goal. Minutes later, Trojans should have been 2-0 up, but unfortunately, Georges shot was just wide of the post. Trojans continued to play well, with some excellent defending and some good attacking football. However, on 21 minutes, Ringley were awarded a penalty, from which they scored. Three minutes later, Jack gave Trojans the lead with a well taken goal, only for Ringley to equalise a minute later. After a superb first half performance, Trojans looked likely to continue their excellent play into the second half. Ringley however, had an amazing amount of luck in the second half. Three minutes into the second half, Ringley took the lead, although the Trojans keeper appeared to be fouled. Two minutes later, Ringley again scored, although this goal was clearly offside. Trojans seemed to go to pieces after the last 2 Ringley goals, allowing them to score again on 41 minutes. Josh was unlucky not to score, but Trojans werent really creating chances like they did in the first half. However, they were awarded a corner after 48 minutes, from which Alex B scored his second goal of the game. A minute later, Trojans scored again, only for the goal to be disallowed. This was a harsh decision, as the ball had quite clearly crossed the line something even the Ringley manager agreed on. Trojans conceded another goal on 51 minutes, but scored themselves right on full time when Mark found the net, to make the final score 6-4 Another good performance against strong opposition. Luck wasnt on Trojans side today what with the penalty, the Ringley offside goal, and our own disallowed goal, the score line could, and should have been very different. Man of the Match Alex B his first two goals for Trojans Team: Goal Alix Defence Luke, Robert, Chris, Alex M Midfield Jack, Josh, Jordan, Antony Strikers Mark, George |
